(Y/n's POV)
"Okay, are you ready?" Thor asks as he helps Jane out of the ship, and she nods tiredly.
"I am," Loki says with a determined expression on his face. "You know this plan of yours is going to get us all killed?"
"Yeah, possibly."
"Do you trust me?"
"Would you trust you?"
"No, I wouldn't," Loki pulls a dagger from behind his back and stabs it into Thor's side before pushing him down the hill.
"No!" Jane shouts.
"Thor!" I start running down the hill after him, but Loki throws me aside and my head slams into a rock, sending me spinning a few feet away from them.
"You really think I cared about Frigga, about any of you?" he asks wickedly as he stalks towards Thor. "All I ever wanted was you and Odin dead at my feet! "
Thor stretches his hand out, attempting to summon his hammer, but Loki cuts off his hand with a swift swing of his dagger. Jane stumbles to her feet and rushes over to Thor, but Loki grabs her and turns to face Malekith and his Dark Elves.
"Malekith! I am Loki of Jotunheim, and I bring you a gift," he tosses Jane at the feet of Malekith. "I ask only one thing in return; a good seat from which to watch Asgard burn."
Malekith's side-man addresses him, ignoring Loki, "He is an enemy of Asgard, he was locked in one of their cells."
There is a nod of acknowledgement before Malekith slowly walks towards Thor, and turns him over with his foot.
"Look," he instructs. "I want you to see this." He uses his power to lift Jane into the air, then starts to extract the power from her. A red vapour starts to pour from her mouth as she is suspended in the air, mouth open in a silent scream.
As soon as it's gone from her, she crumples to the ground.
"Loki! Now!"
A quick wave of his hand and his charm drops, revealing Thor's arm fully intact just in time for him to catch the hammer.
"What the...." I mutter and push myself up, slightly dizzy and wobbling.
Thor uses his hammer to summon lightning and directs it at the Aether, attempting to destroy it.
It doesn't work.
Malekith is too strong, and the Aether has made him even stronger, and he sends Thor tumbling away from him, giving himself time to escape on his aircraft.
"No!" I yell as I spot him, and I try to use my power to shoot him down, but I'm still too unsteady and I fire too wide, meaning he gets away. "Goddamit!"
Loki comes quickly over to me, a hand stretched out, but as soon as he gets near enough I slap him in the face, "You complete asshole Loki Laufeyson! After all the..... And that...... And then you just...."
"Y/n, listen to me. You need to get out of here now. I promise I'll explain everything as soon as I can, but it's not safe."
"No. I won't turn my back on this."
"I can't keep you safe!"
"I'm not asking you to!"
I brush past him and head for where Thor is battling two Dark Elves.
"Get Jane!" he calls to me. "Get her back to the ship!"
Jane is lying a few feet away on the ground, once again unconscious.
"Sorry about this," I mutter to her as I grab her two arms and start dragging her in the direction of the ship. What did he expect? For me to pick her up? Hell no.
The two Elves are easily taken care of, but then Thor is left to face Malekith's side-man. He's bigger, probably stronger, and he looks like he's got a much more dangerous weapon. It's some sort of vortex thing that absolutely mutilates and destroys your being. I know the hammer is the strongest steel in the universe, but I honestly don't know if it'll be enough.
"Come on," I grunt with the effort of pulling her, but soon enough I manage to get her onto the vessel. She doesn't look particularly comfortable, but I'm sure she'll be happy to just make it out alive.
I look back to the battle to see Thor on the ground with the Elf standing over him, ready to make the killing blow.
Until a sharp blade impales him from behind.
Loki comes out from behind the giant Elf, content in his victory, but then he pulls Loki towards him, sending the other end of the blade through Loki's chest, then tosses him on the ground.
"No!" I hear Thor shout.
The Elf takes one step towards Loki to finish the job, but then I watch him implode on himself, and I know that his own weapon has been used against him.
The air catches in my throat as I try to breathe whilst running towards the two brothers.
"No no no, you fool," Thor says as I fall to my knees beside them. "You didn't listen."
"I know. I'm a fool," Loki says as he grunts in pain.
"Stay with me, okay?"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
"Shhh, it's okay brother. It's okay. I will tell father what you did here today."
"I didn't do it for him," he says, and his eyes flicker briefly to me before he winces sharply once more, then his eyes close and his skin turns an icy shade of blue.
"No!" Thor's cry of anguish tears at my heart, and it pushes the tears out even faster than they were falling before.
I can't believe he's gone.
