Chapter 3🐋🐠

In the ocean~

"Deep breath in." Nylah'a breathes in deeply. "Deep breath out."

Neteyam breathes in deeply then out slowly.

"One more time." Nylah'a said to Neteyam putting her hand on his stomach.

Nylah'a then threw a shell a few metres away from her and Neteyam and watched as it sunk down.

"Remember calm, slow heart rate." Nylah'a said to Neteyam, pointing out to the shell.

"I can do this" Neteyam replied before taking one last deep breath and diving down to retrieve the shell.

Nylah'a watched from above as Neteyam dove down and retrieved the shell, making his way back to the surface.

"Nylah'a, I got it, look!" Neteyam yelled as soon as he reached the surface.

"I'm so proud of you, Neteyam." Nylah'a said holding the shell that was still clammed into Neteyams hand.

Neteyam and Nylah'a looked into each others eyes for a split second.

"Wo-would you like to go for a swim later tonight. Just the two of us?" Neteyam asked nervously.

"Father would kill me if he found out." Nylah'a replied.

Neteyam put his head down.

"But I'll suffer the consequences if it means I can spend more time with you, Neteyam." Nylah'a replied looking deep into Neteyams eyes with a smile on her face.

Neteyams face lit up.

"I'll meet you here when the sun goes down." Nylah'a said before swimming off.

"Okay!" Neteyam yelled.

Later on when the sun set, Neteyam and Nylah'a sped through the reef on the ilus, constantly racing each other.

"I know somewhere we can go." Nylah'a said to Neteyam. "Follow me."

Neteyam followed Nylah'a from one side of the island to the other, to this little abandoned beach.

"What is this place?" Neteyam asked.

"When the Metkayina was first built on these islands, this beach was the first to be arrived upon. It is very special to all Metkayina." Nylah'a replied.

"Why's it so abandoned?" Neteyam asked.

"Long time ago, sky people tried to take the land, they burnt the huts and killed many Metkayina. It holds terrible memories for many, but for others, it's deeply sacred and still holds a special place in all of our hearts." Nylah'a replied looking to the stars.

"Wow." Neteyam replied looking around. "It's breathtaking here."

"Isn't it just." Nylah'a replied admiring the land around her.

"I'm glad you brought me here." Neteyam grabbed Nylah'as arm and looked down to her.

"Your special, Neteyam. Just like this place. I know it can't be easy leaving your home but I want you to feel at home here as much as possible. I have seen a Forest boy adapt into a Reef boy, you are truly one of a kind, Neteyam." Nylah'a said holding her hand in his.

"Nylah'a - I." Neteyam said before he was cut off.

Just as Neteyam leaned in closer to Nylah'a, the siren from the village had then gone off.

"Oh, crap." Nylah'a said breaking off from Neteyam and heading into the water. "We have to go!"

"Why what is that?" Neteyam asked following her.
