(Steven's POV)
The day had arrived as I woke up and headed for the bathroom to take a shower and get cleaned up. I was more excited than I had been in quite some time and I wanted to look good when Mabel and the others got here. After brushing my teeth and getting my clothes on, I headed out where the Gems were. Pearl was fixing my breakfast while Amethyst was chowing down on hers. Garnet was leaning against the wall and lowered her shades and winked at me when she saw me.
"Ah Good morning, Steven! I assume you're ready for your date today?" Pearl said as I blushed.
"I wouldn't exactly call it a date, Pearl. Mabel's just coming for a visit with her brother and her friends. Only thing I'll really be doing is showing her around Beach City. So this'll be a tour more than anything else. Seriously, why do you guys always have to do this whenever I interact with a girl?" I asked as Amethyst laughed.
"It wouldn't be fun if we didn't. But don't worry: We'll TRY not to embarrass you too much today. No promises if something comes up by mistake though....." She said in her usual mischievous tone which made me worry. I KNEW Amethyst way too well to believe anything she was saying right now.
"Amethyst, don't. Please don't. I want to make a good....well I guess I already have made a good impression, but I'm the one who's the guide this time for them." I said as Garnet smiled.
"You'll do fine, Steven. But speaking of girls you know, you need to tell Connie about Mabel. You know she's going to find out at some point about you two." She said as I sighed.
"Look, I know. But again, it doesn't matter. At one point, it would have mattered to me what Connie thinks but Mabel...is different from her. I can't explain it, but she just is." I said. It was the truth: Mabel was different than any girl I've met. In more ways than one. And she just had this unexplainable difference that I couldn't put into words.
"Well. Regardless, it wouldn't be right for you to keep this from Connie. I know you two aren't in a relationship but she's still one of your closest friends and has been with you through a lot. Don't you think she deserves to know if you're dating someone now?" Pearl said as I sighed.
"You're right, Pearl. Don't worry, I'll tell her when I see her. It won't be easy, but I'll tell her." I said as there was a knock at the door.
"Now who could that be?" Garnet said as she opened the door and there was Sadie.
"Morning, everyone. Steven, I hate to interrupt you but you've got three lovely young ladies who just arrived that are looking for you. And by "arrived", I mean came through a portal." She said as I chuckled and followed her.
"Oh right! Steven, before you go, let Mabel know that Garnet and I need to speak with Ford about that idea you suggested to Garnet. I don't mind doing it, but I need to clear it with him first." Pearl said as I nodded and waved to them as I followed Sadie to town where Mabel, Pacifica and Wendy were waiting.
"Hey Steven!" Mabel exclaimed as she rushed up to me and kissed me, causing Ronaldo and Peedee to chuckle.
"Not even going to ask. But next time you go on vacation, Steven? Can I come?" Peedee asked as I shook my head at the joke before looking at Mabel, Pacifica and Wendy.
"Well. I guess I better show you around. Also, Mabel: Garnet and Pearl want to talk to Ford about an idea I came up with to make us seeing each other easier." I said as Mabel smiled.
"Really? OK. I'll let him know when we head back. But first, show us around!" She exclaimed as we walked hand in hand around town as I showed her different places like the Boardwalk and the Big Donut and the Fry Shack.
"What's that place over there? It looks like an amusement park." Mabel asked as I smiled.
"That's Funland. It's...well it's exactly that: An amusement park. Come on." I said as I led the three girls inside Funland....and stopped for a moment as I saw Jeff kissing Connie on the cheek. And they must have seen me because Connie looked worried.
"Steven! Um.....It's not what you think! It's.....um....!" Connie tried to say in her defense. And while I may have been brokenhearted before and probably even a bit upset, I simply smiled at them.
"I hope you two are happy together. Oh and this is Mabel Pines, by the way, Connie. She and I....." I began to say until Mabel kissed me on the cheek.
"You don't need to explain anything to her. She seems smart enough to where she gets the point. Come on, Steven." She said as I nodded while Pacifica and Wendy chuckled and followed us.
I looked back and saw Connie and Jeff just standing there stunned but it didn't bother me. Yeah, I still saw Connie as a friend. But any romantic feelings I had before were gone. I knew who my heart belonged to now.
After we were a ways away from Connie and Jeff, Pacifica giggled.
"That felt good. I may not know that Connie girl very well, but the way she tried to make excuses was just sad. If you're dating someone, why deny it? Makes me wonder what you saw in her, Steven." Pacifica said as I smiled.
"I was 12. Give me a break." I said as Mabel, Wendy and Pacifica all laughed as we continued to enjoy our time together.
(Later....)
"Well. It's time for us to head back, Mabel. It was good to see you, Steven." Pacifica said as she made a portal back to Gravity Falls and walked through it along with Wendy.
"Until next time. I'll be sure to tell Ford what you told me. Also, maybe next time, it'll be just the two of us." Mabel said as I smiled and we shared a kiss that seemed to last longer than it did before she went back through the portal herself.
I stood there for a moment in a lovestruck daze before collecting myself and heading back home where Garnet was waiting on the porch for me.
"Hey there. Had a nice date?" She asked as I smiled.
"Yes I did. But where were you guys? With the way Amethyst was talking, I expected you guys to pop up at some point to embarrass me." I said as Garnet smiled.
"Let's just say we decided to give you break and let you have fun today. Did you relay the message Pearl told you to?" She asked as I nodded.
"I did..and thank you, Garnet. It'll make things way easier for me and Mabel." I said as Garnet sighed.
"I sense something else happened while you were out today." She said as I shook my head.
"Garnet. I had a good day. Can we wait to talk about this?" I said as she and I both went into the house for the evening.
