Alessandra was sat, staring out the window as her parents quietly played with Ella, who wasn't a fan of theirs. They were again ignoring her and assuming that they could make the house their own, as if she wasn't there. Other than the few times they needed to know where something was, and as if shocked, they would rediscover her and ask. To make it worse, her brothers were there too. Not that they would say much other than calling her the wrong name when they needed something.
It was three hours past the time Hotch should have been home. It would take him a maximum of half an hour to drive home, but it was three and a half hours past five. He had promised her he would get to her house as soon as he could, and he had lied. That lie alone was enough to make her eyes water. He had forgotten about her. No cases had come in, or she would have been told, and Jack was at her house, so Hotch had to go to her home unless he was using her for free child care.
It wasn't often that she asked a favour from him like that. Typically, they would live life in the moment since there was a chance he could be called away in a moment, or she could be asked to assist on a case. But the one time she asked him in advance to be there for her in a way that wasn't sexual, he bailed on her. All of this, however, was lost on her when lights flicked through the window from a large, black car and before anyone could speculate about it, Alessandra stood and walked out of the room.
Hotch was in the front door by the time she was there, and he took his jacket off as she ran to him. 'You promised you'd be here,' she recalled as she came to an abrupt stop after meeting his chest. Hotch's jacket was hung up, and he immediately returned the hug as her hands ran up the warm back of his. Long fingers soon clung to his shirt, wrinkling it as she clung to him for dear life, both of them choosing to ignore the open front door.
'I'm sorry, I got called into a meeting, and then the team needed me to help them,' he admitted as her body began to rock. Tears were running into his shirt and mingling with her makeup.
'But I needed you,' she mumbled before taking a step back from him. 'They brought the boys with them, but if you walk in and don't say anything, you can grab Ella and Jack. We can run away to your house tonight. They won't even notice,' she told him as his fingers wiped the tears from her cheeks.
Hotch smiled, glancing down at her, and his lips carefully fell to her forehead. Alessandra's eyes were still closed when he pulled away, and he frowned at her sadly. 'We shouldn't. Because that would make things awkward for the party,' Hotch mumbled before he stepped to the side and behind him, there was a chorus of FBI agents, profilers, and Mariah, with food and drink in their hands.
Wide eyes met the party, and Alessandra pulled her hands off of Hotch's arms as she straightened her clothes up and cleared her throat roughly. 'Sorry. I didn't see you all there. It's lovely to see you again. But please, come in,' she greeted, and they slowly entered, walking through to the lounge as Alessandra directed them.
To say the Nobles were shocked would do a disservice to their scowling faces when FBI agents entered with food and laughter. When Alessandra entered, they glared at her for an answer, but she just relished the fact that they remembered her. 'Jack, daddy's here,' she announced, and he immediately ran to the door where Hotch embraced him and kissed his head until he asked to be in Alessandra's arms.
When Hotch's laugh was heard, Ella got to her feet and wobbled her way to Hotch in the fastest run she could manage. He picked her up quickly and began to land kisses on her face that made her giggle. He also began to tickle her, and Ella's features grew red with joy.
'Am I meant to call you mummy?' Jack asked Alessandra with surprising clarity. His words made Hotch and Alessandra meet eyes before she looked back at Jack with a cheeky smile.
