Alexias Pov

Carl was finally in recovery after the man named Hershal had gotten the bullet pieces out.

Rick looked as though he was about to faint as he slumped onto the chairs outside the room his wife and son were in. He needed rest.

I had gotten him a glass of fresh orange juice, as it'd help with the major loss of blood.

"Here, it'll help." I smiled warmly, standing next to him and putting my hand on his shoulder momentarily, before sitting on the chair across from him.

He smiled back, looking up at me with those bright blue eyes. "Thank you Lexi, for everything really."

"always, we've become family, all of us have, one way or another." I laughed thinking about Daryl's hostility towards some. I knew deep down he was a soft person, i'd seen it first hand.

"So what'd you do before all this went down?" He asked.

"a journalist, I had so many plans for my life," I replied, saddened about losing it all.

"That sounds amazing," he gazed up at me, a genuine smile on his face. It was nice to see even after everything he'd been through.

"Yeah it would've been, traveling around the world and writing about it," I chuckled, realising the true beauty of it.

The front door opened revealing Shane and Otis, the man who had accidentally shot Carl.

Shane sat on the chair next to Rick, "Look man, I need to do this, you have to stay here. Be with your boy, and your wife. They need you. I will go find the shit Hershal needs and you stay, okay?"

"Yeah okay, you going alone?"

"I'll go with him, I know where it is, and I bet you don't even know the names of half of what youre looking for." Otis said. "It's only fair I go after my part in this. I want to help."

"Otis no!" Otis wife said.

"Honey we don't have time for guest-work and im responsible, I aint gonna sit here whilst this fella takes this on alone," He explained.

"Are you sure about this," Shane asked.

"Yes, afterall, do you even know what any of the stuff hes talking about looks like?"

"Come to think of it, no."

"Then I'm going." he declared.

They headed out to Otis' truck and got the supplies needed for their trip.

Shane walked over to me "Hey, uh, can I talk to you, for a minute, privately?"

I was hesitant, but I agreed to and so we parted from the others.

"What is it Shane?"

"I never got to apologise for what happened at CDC and I regret everything I did, I don't expect you to forgive me now. But, hopefully you'll consider it, because you're a great friend and I don't wanna lose that." He looked into my eyes and I could tell he meant it.

Yes, after that night I was weird around and so was he. I could tell he felt guilty and i'm happy he did, i'll never forgive him but he doesn't need to know that if I'm going to end up being around him for a long time.

"I don't know Shane, sure"  I replied.

I tensed up as he put a hand on my shoulder, "thank you, so much" he turned to make his way to the truck before I called out.

"Good luck, to both of you." he nodded with a smile in return.

--------------------------------------------------

It was night time when Glenn and T-Dogg had made it to the farm, with antibiotics and painkillers for Carl.

Shane and Otis still weren't back with the respirator for the operation and Hershal wasn't sure how much longer he had before he had to operate.

I had become quite fond with Hershal's daughter Maggie. She was a nice girl only a few years younger than myself, we talked about anything and everything to let the time pass before Shane was back.

I went out the back onto the porch but stopped in my tracks only to have stubbled on Rick and Lori. But I hid away, so they did not notice me, "What if this is how its meant to be, what if Carl was meant to die?" Lori said.

"How can you talk like that, this is Carl we're talking 'bout here." Rick replied. "When we were at CDC you were practically begging Jenner to give us a chance, for as long as we can, what changed?"

Before I was caught listening in on their conversation I snuck back inside and went to Carls room, I understand where she's coming from but that's her son. The luck of having a son only to not worry or be scared for him to die.

I sat beside him and held his hand, he reminded me of my nephew Charlie, so innocent and young, brought into this horrible world. My sister Rose and her husband Finn were the best they always put their child's needs before their own. The last time I saw them was about 2 weeks before the outbreak when I went to visit.

Rick and Lori had entered the room, to see their son "I'll go I was just keeping him company," I smiled.

As I walked past Rick grabbed my arm, "thank you, really it means a lot to us, what you do for us," he smiled as his icy blue eyes stared back at mine.

"Of course, I'll be waiting if you need me," I quietly left the room almost stumbling into Hershal, "oh I'm sorry dear, didn't see ya there."

"Don't worry 'bout it. And no Shane or Otis?"

"Not that we've seen, and sooner rather then later we are going to have to operate on that boy, or he will die."

Rick and Lori had made the decision to go through with the procedure, even though they had no respirator.

But the sound of a truck stopped them, Shane got out, explaining that Otis had covered for him whilst he escaped with all the supplies.

The operation was done and Carl was okay, and recovering, the world spun again.
