"Good Morning everyone." Yasmin greeted as she entered her grandma's house.
Today was the day that she faced the music. She was still pissed off because her family did not tell her that her granny passed away until days after. Last night, it took a lot for her to even read the letter that she left to her.
"Dear Yasmin,
First off, I love you so much. I wish you would have came home more often because I really missed you. If you are reading this now, my soul has transitioned to be with the Lord. I really wish I got to see you one last time sweet pea. I always loved you, your sister, and your mother. Despite everything that has happened over the years, I never once blame y'all for leaving. Your mother did the best that she could do being married to that son of mine. I knew myself that he was no good but by time your mother was done with his mess, she found out she had cancer. She called me in tears and said she didn't want to fight with him anymore and wanted to pass away in peace. I apologize on all of my children's behalf for the pain they caused you over the years. I knew that you would grow up to be a sweet, loving, and respectable young lady. I have been keeping tabs on you from afar and I would just love to say that I am proud of you. With everything that I said in this letter, I just wanted you to know that you and very few others are the only ones I trust to do right by me. Your cousin Stacy had a little girl a few years ago, she is almost 4 years old now. I have had her since she was 3 months old. I really don't want no one in this family to raise her or for the state to take. If would grant me with one last wish of being her guardian, I would so happy. Her name is Davinity Carter. I have written in my will that you are to be her guardian in the event that I pass away. All of her paper work is in a purple box under the head of my bed. It has two side and the bottom half has every document you need for her. There is also an envelop with a few thousand dollars to help out. She does have a secure bank account as well, in which, you have been added to. This was not an easy decision to spring on you because I know that you have Jameson to take care of but I really do not trust her with no one else in this family. Well, that is all I have to say. I really want you to know that I love you more than I ever got to tell you. Continue to strive and go so far sweet pea. Kisses!
Love,
Granny""Morning Yas," my cousin Danielle replied. Everyone else seemed to be in a down mood. "The kids are in the backyard if he wants to go outside with them." She added.
Yas looked down at Jameson, "JuneBug, do you want to go outside and play? Momma with be watching you through the window, okay?" He released her hand and ran outside to play with his cousins.
"Girl, how you been? I haven't really been seeing you on social media or anything." Danielle questioned. Yasmin followed her into the kitchen and sat down.
"I'm taking a break from social media right now. It's been overwhelming with too much for me. I might get back on there soon. But other than that I been working. I started this assistant job back in January and I like it. Jameson been growing up so much and I could be more proud. I am honestly happy right now. How about you? I see you and your wife had a baby. How old is she now?"
"Oh my goodness! Yes. It has been a ride but I would not change it for the world. She means everything to us. She is 19 months and has turned into turbo ever since she could walk. " She smiled. "I'm suppose to start back working but my wife told me she got everything under control and all I need to do is enjoy life."
"I love that for you. I just started dating someone and it's been going really good so far. I'm just taking it all in."
"Don't look now but Stacy just walked in.." Danielle whispered.
Yasmin allowed a few seconds to pass by before she darted her head towards Stacy. She looked so much worse the last time she saw her. Stacy was the family prostitute that relapsed on crack after her daughter's birth.
"You know Granny asked me to adopt her daughter?" Yas revealed.
Danielle dropped her mouth in shock because before Yasmin showed up, everyone was asking who the baby was going to go with. "Are you going to?"
"I thought about it and yeah... Granny is putting all her trust in me to take care of her."
Although Yasmin's living situation was not perfect, she knew she could not leave that baby girl here knowing that her Granny did not even trust anyone else for it to be other options for Davinity.
Stacy stumbled into the kitchen. "Where my Granny at!? I know she ain't dead! Somebody lying... it was YOU!" Stacy point her finger in Yasmin face.
"Uh.. Aunt Tina. Come get your child!" She did not want to do anything to her so the best option was to call her momma to come get her. Her aunt came and pull her daughter to the living room with the rest of the family.
Yas turned her attention back to her cousin. "I was going to leave today, but I will leave tomorrow now that I have to pack Davinity up."
"You've met her right? And she know she is going to be living with you."
"Yes but she is only 3 so she doesn't really understand. She just know that the Mommy that she has always known is not here. I'm going to take her with me today but tomorrow I'll swing by again to let her say goodbye." Yasmin explained.
"And I am guessing... you still ignoring your daddy?" She pried a tad.
Yas rolled her eyes at the question. Everything about his existence what pissing her off in that moment. She just thought how could you not want to be the one to tell your only living child that her grandmother - your mother - died? No matter how pissed off you are, that is the type of pride you get over for the time being.
"GIRL -- Yes. I'm not speaking to that man until I feel like it. He just does everything in his power to feel like he the victim in every situation and I am not putting up with it anymore. My momma died hating that man and stayed because she was dying. I will not.. I just won't." Yasmin shook her head and crossed her arms in anger. Jameson was screaming and her head snapped towards the window but it was just him being chased by another little boy.

"Davinity! You ready to go." Yas yelled down the hall. She didn't get a respond but she heard little feet tapping through the hall. Her little body appeared in the doorway. "Are you ready?" She nodded. "And you are sure there is nothing else that you want from the house."
"Wait.." She ran across the hall into her Grandma Mary's room. Moments later she returned with a homemade quilt and pillow. Yasmin knew that blanket was the same blanket that she use to sleep with as a little girl whenever she came to visit. Davinity handed the items to her and said, "All done."
"Okay. Let's go. I'll bring you back tomorrow to say bye if you want to okay?"
Davinity nodded and took Yasmin hand while walking down the hall.
"We about to leave. Nice seeing everyone." Yas mustered up a smile to give to them. She hugged a few people that she cared for and walked out the house.
She placed the duffel bag that held the rest of baby girl's things on the floor of her backseat. Then buckled Jameson into his car seat and Davinity into hers after.
"So are you my new Mommy?" The little girl caught her off guard with the question.
"Kinda. You can call me what every you want to call me, okay? You can think of whatever makes you think of me." She answered.
Yasmin made sure to secure them both before getting to the driver side and putting on her seat belt. She looked over her shoulder to observe them both and thought to her "I never thought I would be a two car seat having ass parent this soon." She silently chuckled and drove off.
