Red POV

Avery's disapproval of engaging in conversation with the boys was evident, but in a place like this, I needed friends, especially ones who could provide information about the mysterious creature deaths my Uncle J had mentioned.

As if one of the boys could read my thoughts, he cleared his throat, breaking the uncomfortable silence that enveloped us. "So?" he began, his voice echoing softly in the quiet atmosphere. Avery's piercing gaze didn't waver; she was clearly not amused by their presence.

"I suppose we didn't properly introduce ourselves since you already hired a bodyguard," one of the boys said, attempting to break the icy tension that had settled around us. I couldn't help but find his remark amusing.

Avery's grip tightened around a fork, her anger palpable. She seemed ready to strike, but I quickly intervened, gently prying the utensil from her hand. She shot me a bewildered look, as if I were insane for holding her back.

"He was just joking, right?" I pleaded, hoping for confirmation. I wasn't quite sure what would happen next if he didn't agree.

"I'm Dean," the other boy said, drawing my attention to him. He had been relatively quiet until now, exuding a calm and composed demeanor. There was something undeniably attractive about him-a mix of hotness and a nerdy charm. His hair, dark with deep green edges, suited him perfectly. Wait, what was I thinking? Everyone I had encountered here seemed otherworldly.

His eyes were black, and his skin was smooth, but not as smooth as Xavier's, so perhaps he wasn't one of them.

"It's nice to meet you, I'm..." I began, but before I could finish, Dean interrupted.

"You do know that everyone knows who you are," Dean stated matter-of-factly.

"Really?" I asked in surprise, and he nodded. "I didn't expect the news to spread that quickly," I mused, growing curious about what people might be saying about me.

"Well, it has, but don't worry, I don't think they have any negative thoughts," Dean assured me.

"How could you possibly know that?" Avery interjected, her skepticism evident.

"He's a fae, well, we both are," Jacob chimed in, pointing to himself and Dean. I glanced over at the other guy and immediately noticed the stark contrast between him and Dean. He exuded an air of openness and had a playful sense of humor.

"I'm Jacob," he introduced himself with a friendly smile, confirming my initial impression. He seemed like the kind of person who perfectly embodied his name.

"Hey, I would have introduced myself, but as you pointed out, I'm already well-known," I replied, playfully pointing out the irony.

"Exactly," Jacob responded, winking at me. Surprisingly, I found his playful gesture rather charming. In high school, boys would make such moves in an attempt to lure girls into the bathroom, but Jacob seemed different. He exuded confidence, with his frosted white hair, pointed nose, well-defined jawline, and those captivating purple eyes.

"I'm just curious about how you survived the killings," Jacob asked, his eyes sparkling with interest.

"What killings?" I inquired, puzzled by his statement.

"Haven't you heard? Just a few hours ago, exactly when you arrived, it was reported that two wolves were brutally killed. Their body parts were found scattered in different locations," Jacob explained, his tone growing more dramatic towards the end.

And then it hit me.

"Do you mean wolves, as in werewolves?" I asked, seeking confirmation. Jacob nodded, and everyone at the table turned their gaze towards me, their curiosity piqued.

I knew it wasn't the infamous killer responsible for those deaths. It was my savior-the adorable wolf. Wait, did I just describe a wolf as "adorable"? I scolded myself internally. "You need help, Red," my inner voice chimed in, acknowledging the need for self-reflection.

"Did you witness anything unusual?" Jacob prodded, his eagerness for details evident in his eyes.

"Sorry to disappoint, but I didn't. As I mentioned to the elders, I have no recollection of how I even got here," I replied, a tinge of disappointment crossing Jacob's face.

"Well, that's a bummer," he replied, his expression falling flat. I couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness for not having any information to satisfy his curiosity.

"Let's focus on finishing our meal before it gets cold. I'm starting to get bored," Avery finally spoke up, breaking the heavy silence that had settled upon us.

A few minutes later, as we were nearing the end of our meal, Jacob suddenly said, "Look who's trying to get into Xavier's pants again." At the mention of Xavier's name, I left my food untouched and turned my attention in the direction Jacob was looking.

There, Xavier sat casually, looking somewhat annoyed with the girl sitting next to him. Well, more accurately, she was trying to eat him up, but he wasn't reciprocating.

I strained to catch a glimpse of her face, but Avery touched my arm, pulling me back to reality. "Don't stare," she warned.

"Huh?" I replied, momentarily confused by her caution.

"She's right. If Aubrey finds out that you were even looking at Xavier for a second, she might make your life hell here," Jacob chimed in.

"But I didn't do anything wrong," I protested, feeling a bit defensive.

"Tell that to the girls whose lives she ruined just because Xavier preferred getting various blowjobs from different girls," Jacob explained matter-of-factly.

Wow.

"Is she really that obsessed with him?" I asked, genuinely curious.

"It's more like a 'if I can't have you, no one can' vibe," Jacob replied, shedding light on Aubrey's unhealthy attachment to Xavier.

"They were considered the power couple, you know. People envied them, thinking they were the perfect match. But things started to unravel," Jacob continued, seemingly knowledgeable about the school's social dynamics.

"How so?" I inquired, intrigued by the inside scoop.

"Well, their arguments escalated to the point where even the smallest disagreement would lead to a fight. Aubrey couldn't take it anymore, so every time an argument seemed to arise, she would cast a spell on Xavier," Jacob explained.

"That's messed up," I muttered under my breath, hoping no one else heard me.

"Absolutely. It went on for a while until someone overheard Aubrey talking to her friends about it. Being the spiteful person she is, that someone immediately told Xavier, and he was beyond furious," Jacob revealed.

"I can't blame him," I remarked, understanding Xavier's anger.

"That's how the so-called power couple came crashing down. Amen," Jacob concluded, devouring the last piece of the sandwich he had been eyeing throughout the conversation.

"So, it's advisable to stay at least five feet away from him, because right now..." Avery trailed off, peeking behind me, her eyes widening.

"What happened?" Panic gripped my chest as my heart began to race.

"She's coming this way,"
