Hikaru was making her way towards the road that was coming into view. She figured it'd be easier to follow it to the city than cut through fields the whole way. Ok, she may have been also hoping that a traveler on a horse or in a wagon or something, would give her a ride. It wasn't that she couldn't make it, she just had one of those anime stories she used to watch stuck in her head and expected it to happen. Even though, her logical mind told her, that expectation was silly. As she walked, Hikaru thought she heard what sounded like snoring. It got louder as she progressed, until she came upon a boy about her age sleeping in the grass next to the road.

She raised an eyebrow curiously. "Um... excuse me?" Hikaru tried, hoping the boy would wake up. But, he just let out a particularly loud snort. "Hey, wake up!"
He snorted again, rolling over onto his side. Hikaru was about to just walk on and ignore him when he let out a loud burp and suddenly sat up. He looked around confused. When he saw Hikaru, his eyes got wide and he jumped to his feet.
"S-Sorry." He stuttered, " I.. umm.. I.."
"Look," Hikaru said, slightly annoyed, "I just wanted to make sure you were alright. You seem fine. I leaving."

"Wait!" The boy exclaimed, "Where am I right now? I remember a white room and a guy in white clothes, l think.. or was that a dream? Or maybe I'm playing VR? I don't remember starting a game.." He devolved into incoherent mumbling and Hikaru just watched him in bewilderment.

At one point it seemed like he was going to hyperventilate, so Hikaru tried to calm him down.
"Hey, take it easy." She said, but he just kept rambling. "Hey. Hey!" He didn't hear a word she was saying and now Hikaru's temper was threatening to get the best of her.

"Hey! Would you be quiet for two seconds!?" Hikaru yelled at him. The boy no longer said anything that sounded coherent but he wasn't listening either.

"Snap out of it!" Hikaru shouted and punched him in the arm. She expected him to stop talking, look shocked, and rub his arm. She did not think she could knock him down let alone send him flying.

But, that's what happened. She made contact and he flew what looked to be about two or so miles.
She looked incredulously at her hand and back at where the boy had landed.

Hikaru closed her eyes and yelled at the top of her lungs, "What the hell! I just wanted to be healthy not freakishly strong!"

The boy was getting up and Hikaru hurried over to him.
"Sorry," she said, looking embarrassed, " I didn't realize I was that strong. You ok?"

The boy got up stiffly and said, "Ow! What was that for!?"
"You wouldn't stop babbling, so I just was trying to get your attention.", Said Hikaru.
"So you went right to beating me up?" He asked, rubbing his arm and rolling his shoulders.
"No!" Hikaru said snarkily. "I tried... Whatever. You said something about a white room and someone in white clothes?" Hikaru wasn't sure but if that meant what she thought, this guy was caught up in the meteor shower and reincarnated just like she was.
"Well, I thought I remembered something like that." He looked around. "This doesn't look like any place near where I live. And that hurt too much to be a dream or VR." He started mumbling.

"Hey. Don't start that again or I'll hit you harder." Hikaru said looking annoyed.

"Please don't." He said meekly, rubbing his arm again.
Hikaru sighed and said, "That white room? I was there too. According to the angel we were caught up in a meteor shower by accident and died and now we live here so they can save face or something."

"Oh," he said, "So that was real. And now I.. I.." he stuttered as he looked down at himself. Started patting his chest, lifted his shirt, then at the top of his lungs yelled, "I've got abs!"

Hikaru put her fingers in her ears when he did this and said, "Congratulations. Do you need to be so loud about it?"
"I was so fat before, I thought it'd be impossible for me to ever get fit, nevermind abs!", Was the boys reply.
"Whatever.", Said Hikaru, putting her hands down.
"Isn't this what you asked for?"
"Oh, yeah..." He said, looking thoughtful. Then, to add to his weirdness maybe, he started flailing about. "What is that blinking?" He asked as he exaggeratedly flapped his hands about trying to swat it away.

Hikaru sighed. "That's a message notification. Your angel is trying to contact you."
He looked confused. "Message? Like a game?"
"Yes." Hikaru said exasperated, "If you had paid attention to the angel before transferring here, they probably told you they were setting up a communication system. Just focus on it and it'll open."

He did and soundlessly moved his mouth as he read the message. Hikaru was about to tell him how to reply when she noticed his hands in the air like they were typing. She moved a little ways away as he talked with his angel.
She thought about just leaving all together but the thought of traveling with someone in the same predicament, even some as weird as him, had it's appeal.

It seemed to take him twice as long as it took her to cover everything with the angel. 'Maybe I'm just a quicker study about things like this.' she thought to herself.

Finally, he stopped pointing at 'nothing' (the menu options) and turned to her.
"I should introduce myself, my name is Raiko Sato." He extended his hand awkwardly, thought better about it, then snapped his feet together like a military soldier, clasping his hands behind his back.

Hikaru sighed and shook her head. "I'm Hikaru Yuki."

Sorry this installment took so long to publish. I got sick for a few weeks but I'm all better now.

Honestly I had lost my thought process about this story after not writing it for so long and almost thought I'd never get it finished because of writer's block. But I like the flow of this and I'll try to post more soon.

The images were taken from the Zedge app and Google search and are really only a vague imagery of what I see in my mind. A kind of place holder.
