Sorry for the long wait everyone! But I really hope you enjoy this chapter <3. Please stay safe.
Severus was sitting in Potions chopping up ingredients. As he did he could feel Harry's eyes boring into him from his little chair at the front of the room. Harry really hadn't settled since that first potions session. Severus looked up from his chopping board at him and hid a chuckle at Harry's intense scrunched up expression.
Lily got his attention and he went back to stirring their potion as she slowly added in the sprouts she had chopped up. Severus was focused on the potion so he didn't see the smug expression grow on her face.
"So... do you know when we're supposed to start smelling things from the Amortentia?"
Severus just looked at her quizzingly. "When it's done?"
"Ah drats! I would have loved to have known what you smelled." Severus could now feel two sets of eyes boring into him.
"I do not appreciate the implications of what you are saying."
"Come on!" she said, throwing her hands down, exasperated. "You, Harry, and Potter have really fallen into the family rhythm at this point. Almost like a nuclear family."
Severus tried to stop the blush blooming on his face, but to no avail. His skin was just too pale, and he knew the Gryffindor would just grab it and run with it.
"Wait, why are you blushing?" She gasped, delighted. "Is there something you're not telling me?!"
"Shhh! Quiet down Lily! By Merlin's pants."
She zipped her lips, but the Slytherin could see the redhead nearly jumping out of her chair with excitement.
Severus sighed. "Okay. There is something you should know."
Lily couldn't hide her squeal very well. "I knew it! What is it? What is it?"
Severus leaned closer, prompting Lily to lean closer as well, her eyes gleaming. Severus opened his mouth.
"It's time to add the pearl dust."
Lily just gaped at him. "Are you kidding me?!?"
"Come on now, chop chop!"
Severus couldn't help but laugh at his best friend's giggly but frustrated expression as she sprinkled in the pearl dust.
But as he looked over at Harry, smiling encouragingly at him, he heard a small sigh from beside him.
"Are you really not going to tell me what's happening?" She was downtrodden as she was cleaning up her workbench.
Severus sighed, irritated as he glanced at the instructions and started stirring the other way. "There's nothing to tell, Lily. Nothing's happening." He tried to be calm but his words came out with a bit of an edge. And he refused to glance behind him, even though now that James was in his consciousness he wanted to do nothing else.
"... Really?" Lily uttered quietly, only to sigh when the Slytherin gave her a wide eyed nonverbal confirmation. "Alright, I believe you. But we're best friends Sev. If something's happening, you can tell me. Even if you don't know what's happening, I can help you figure it out."
Severus was speechless. After blinking he said, "I know, Lils, and I appreciate it so much. But there really isn't anything to say." Because there isn't, he thought. "I mean-"
Severus was cut off from the waft of the potion hitting him. He heard Lily exclaim from beside him, probably when the scent hit her nostrils too. Their Amortentia was finished.
