The summer days began to cool off and the twins packed their bags. The shuttle to pick them up would be arriving soon and they only had a few hours left to enjoy the cool breeze of the paradise planet they lived on for the past few years. "Come on slow poke, we have places to be." Arron teased as he closed his bag and slung it over his shoulder. Alex sighed as he picked his bags up.
"You're always in a rush, we still have 2 hours until the shuttle gets here and the port isn't far from us." Alex studied their bedroom for a second and looked out the window. "Just settle down for a moment and take a look at the city." Alex pointed towards the lively skyscrapers. "This is probably the last time we'll see something this beautiful for a while." Arron walked up to the window and gazed at the skyline. Most of the buildings were tall beautiful skyscrapers of glass and concrete surrounded by an unpolluted blue sky and white fluffy clouds.
"Like our own little slice of paradise." Arron rested his hand on his brother's shoulder. "And this is only a 2nd class planet, once we finish our contracts we can go to whatever planet we want." Alex looked at his watch and gave one more look at the skyline.
"We still have a few hours to say bye to everyone before the shuttle gets here." Alex pat his brother on the back and walked to their bedroom door. Arron followed him downstairs to their mother and father. Their father sat in his chair, reading about how the empire changed the school curriculum across many systems. Their mother, Phebe, was resting her eyes on the couch until she heard her two boys getting ready to leave.
"Is it already time?" She yawned. Her hair was a mess as she stood up and looked at how tall the twins are compared to her. She was only 5'5, but the twins are about an inch shorter than her. Their father, Jack, also stood up and looked at his sons.
"It's hard to believe it's time for my two boys to leave already." Jack said as he put the tablet down. He is taller than their mother, standing at 5'10, but he knew the twins would eventually catch up to him. He wrapped his arms around both of them and squeezed them. "Don't forget to write or call." His voice was strong, but a little shaky. He put the twins down and put a hand on both of their shoulders. "And don't forget to watch each others backs." Their mother walked up to them and wrapped her arms around both of them, even though she couldn't get the same coverage as their father.
"I love you two, and if you need any help with learning anything just call." She dropped her arms and took a small step back. "Especially you Alex, being a pilot is incredibly demanding and is hard to manage at first." She turned to the oldest twin. "And Arron, if you you're having trouble shooting just ask your father, he is a better shot than what he looks." Phebe chuckled to herself.
"Speaking of shooting shots," Jack chimed in. "If either of you have any girl trouble just call me. I haven't met a woman who could resist the Grimes charm". Phebe stood off to the outside of his vision and shook her head.
"Is that what you call it?" She whispered in a soft playful tone. "You were persistent, I'll give you that." Phebe said as everyone walked to the door.
"You just played hard to get back then." Jack replied as he opened the door. The twins walked out, with smirks on their faces as both of them waved, saying their farewells to their parents as they walked down the street.
"Bye mom! Bye dad!" Arron yelled, and his brother followed behind him.
"We'll send a message once we get to the station!" Alex yelled. Jack cupped his hands near his mouth and yelled twice as loud. "You guys will do great!"
