As the ship rumbled it flew through the atmosphere, glowing a slight orange color at the cockpit. The slight orange turned into a fiery red as the ship increased in speed until the ship broke through the atmosphere and reached a low orbit. Throughout the ship the young teenagers day back in their seats and watched movies on their phones, slept, or talked amongst themselves. "So what job are you hoping to get?" A kid with brown hair asked Arron. Arron sat up in his chair and turned around.
"I'm hoping to get into the infantry." Arron said with a smirk. The boy looked puzzled.
"What was your score on the pre-advanced school exam?" The boy asked
"83" Arron responded.
"I only got a 64 and I can go into so many different career fields. I can only imagine the number of jobs available to you." The boy gawked. "Out of everything why infantry? That job is for the volunteers and everyone who doesn't have a good test score."
"My dad volunteered during the Marathyon conflict, I want to follow in his footsteps." Arron rubbed his face and then paused. "Wait, what job are you trying to do?" Arron questioned.
"Infantry." The boy stated with a smirk, both boys laughed to themselves.
"You're almost as bad as me." Arron chuckled. "What's your name?"
"Charley James." Charley held his hand out. "What's yours?" Arron extended his hand out to meet his and shook Charley's hand. "Arron Grimes, nice to meet you."
Across from Arron, Alex sat in his chair eating his bread and reading about a witch who struggles with her past and refuses to let herself fall in love. A boy with blond hair and blue eyes sits next to Alex, interrupting his reading. "Hey Arron, do you mind if I sit here?" Teddy asked as he caught Alex by surprise.
"Sorry, you got the wrong twin." Alex said, almost choking on his bread. "I'm Alex, Arron has the blue streak in his hair, but you can still sit here if you want." Teddy's face lit up.
"Oh, your Alex, your brother told me about you before we got on the ship." Teddy paused and ran his fingers through his golden hair to keep it out of his eyes. "Arron told me that you wanted to be a pilot."
"Yeah." Alex slowly answered as he tried to figure out Teddy's intentions.
"I want to be a pilot too, but I'm still trying to decide if I want to fly in space or in atmosphere." Teddy stated as he looked out the window and towards the stars and then back down to the planet. An announcement rang out from a set of speakers that lined the aisle and a male voice started playing.
"The loophole will open in one minute."
"Well," Alex paused as he turned off his phone to focus on his thoughts. "If I'm going to fly in atmosphere I would want to fly the Valkyrie Mk-ll or the HES-24 Shadow-hawk. If I'm flying in space then I would take the Falcon Mk-7."
Teddy raised an eyebrow. "Why the Valkyrie? You don't get any of the new systems and the electrical problems are insane."
"The Valkyrie has the best kill ratio out of all the fighters in the Empire." Alex stated as he becomes more invested in the conversation. "20-millimeter cannons, a take of weight of fifty-five thousand pounds, it can carry 6 air-to-air missiles and 6 all-purpose missiles," Teddy's eyes grew wide as he began to realize that Alex knew his material. "Matter of fact, there's too many configurations for me to list, and for it to be a 20 year old fighter it still keeps up in agility, capability, and durability. Plus there might be a new iteration of the Valkyrie once we start flying."
"As much as I love that idea it's just a rumor." Teddy debated, he opened his mouth to say something, but was cut off by an announcement.
"Please find your chair and fasten your seatbelts, entry into the loophole will be made in ten second." The ship's engines began to wind and grew in volume until it roared. A small violet wormhole opened in front of the ship, spinning and violently spitting out lightning. The engines of the ship turned from red to a wild blue fire as it spontaneously launched into the loophole.
Both of the boys gazed out of the window and watched as everything outside of the ship shifted to a blue hue. The acceleration of the ship jerked everyone into their seats for a moment until the ship reached its top speed. Outside the window the boys saw a brief glimpse of stars as they turned red to blue then back to res as they flew past. Teddy stared into open space, watching as the light began to bend around the ship.
"Is this your first time in a loophole?" Alex asked.
"Yeah, how can you tell?" Teddy asked without taking his eyes away from the window.
"We passed most of the visible stars and planets already. Alex said to him, yet Teddy's gaze was still locked.
"Did we?" Teddy asked with almost no spirit in his voice.
"Yes we did," Alex insisted. "Quite looking at the void before you start to go crazy."
