WillowI wake up from the first sleep without nightmares in a year feeling refreshed and ready for the day. My bliss is short lived when I hear somebody knock on my door. Immediately my heart rate goes up. What if its Griffin? Even though it was an accident, knowing that he killed his last pet scares me. What if he loses control during the eclipse again?
"Willow," Nicholas says, poking his head through the door. I let out a sigh of relief that its just him. "The Lords have asked me to show you around the manor and teach you how to do your tasks. Are you able to be ready in fifteen minutes?"
"Yeah, where should I meet you?" I ask, forcing myself off the heavenly cloud. Words can't even describe how nice it is to sleep on a bed after sleeping on the bare ground for a year.
"I'll just wait outside your door." Nicholas says. I nod in reply. I go to the bathroom first and decide to take a quick shower. My back is still raw and it hurts but I won't be able to take a bath in under 15 minutes. While I'm in the shower I make sure to have my front facing the water and only turn around when I have to wet my hair.
Once I'm done in the shower I brush out my hair and decide to let it air dry. I really don't have the patience to blow dry it. I put a ponytail on my wrist just incase I feel like tying it up later.
Looking at the racks of clothes in my closet, I'm not sure what to wear. I don't have a maids uniform like I saw the servants wearing and majority of the clothes in here are dressy or for bed. After a lot of consideration I put on black leggings, a black tank top, and white sneakers.
I exit my room to see Nicholas leaning against the wall. I feel bad for making him wait here with nothing to do. "Hi." I wave awkwardly. "I hope I didn't make you wait too long."
Nicholas smiles. "No, not at all. You had five minutes to spare actually. Follow me, The Lords wanted to make sure you eat breakfasts before you start your work."
I follow Nicholas down four flights of stairs and several hallways until we reach our destination. This whole floor seems to be the slave quarters. Several slaves are buzzing up and down the hallways. While it's still nice, it's lacking in decorations and life. It's very bare. I have no idea how I'm going to become familiar with this place, it's just way too big for me to memorize where specific rooms are. I am relieved to have tasks though. It's what I was trained to do, I was expecting to get them. It'll help get my mind off this whole wife thing and give me something to do.
Nicholas opens white French doors, revealing what appears to be a cafeteria. There are several long wooden tables and a buffet to grab your food. I follow Nicholas to the buffet station and load my plate with eggs, bacon and fruit. I'm relieved when Nicholas sits away from everyone else. I take a seat across from him.
"So, what are my tasks anyway?" I ask, stabbing a strawberry and bringing it to my lips.
"You'll just be cleaning The Lords rooms and bathrooms, nothing too bad." Nicholas answers.
I nod and then I tilt my head, observing him. How did he become a slave? He looks like he could be a pet, he's handsome.
"Hey Nicholas?" I ask, my curiosity getting the best of me.
"Please call me Nick." Nick says, looking up from his food and gesturing for me to go on.
I pull at my fingers in my lap. I don't want to make him uncomfortable by my questions. "You don't have to answer this if you don't want to, but how did you start serving them? It's just that you don't really look like a slave. What I've heard is that the attractive humans are picked as pets and um yeah..." I trail off. My face flames in embarrassment. Did I just call him attractive? I did not mean for it to come out like that.
