"fuck, mom i'm so nervous..." luke said with a shaky voice.

the day of the matching ceremony had finally come, and he was about to find out who he was stuck with for the rest of his life.

he was already dreading this whole thing because unlike the majority, luke wasn't straight. and the government doesn't care. this whole thing is based on bloodlines and who will make the best babies. luke thought it was fucked up.

all the government cared about was this scientific bullshit of avoiding disease and trying to remove the "concept of love" from society because it created so many problems.

they were going by last name of the boy, and they were already all the way through the b's and into the c's. luke still had a ways to go, but he became more terrified with each name called. most people didn't care as much as he did. they'd get their match, fuck, have kids, and go on with their life.

most of this society was brainwashed to think this was normal.

all of a sudden, luke heard a familiar name being called.

"michael clifford.... you are matched with lucas hemmings." the announcer spoke.

luke's jaw dropped, and his mother nearly died.

"what do you mean, you're matched with a boy? something must be wrong, surely, we'll get this figured out luke don't you worry." his mother rambled. luke didn't hear anything she said.

being gay was just not a thing you saw in this society. in history, only one other same sex couple was matched. they were girls and they had a baby through some fucked up genetic mixing.

"boys, please come up to the stage, we cannot wait all day..." the announcer said.

"fuck" luke muttered, as he got up and began walking to the stage.

he felt the whole town's eyes on him, they were all confused and even angry.

luke couldn't believe the relief he felt that he wasn't stuck with a girl for his whole life, but at the same time, it was michael..

he didn't want to ever see michael again, and now he was going to be stuck with him forever.

the two of them got up to the stage, and made eye contact. michael had dyed his hair black since they last saw each other. he looked different to luke.

the stage announcer pointed them in the direction of where they get their paperwork. neither boy said anything, they were both in shock and didn't really have anything to say.

they knew there was no point in arguing with the people. the government had made their decision and there was no changing that.
