____

i practically fall out of bed. i know this is the last time i'll get out of this bed in the morning.

i dread even going downstairs. i know that once i leave my room, it'll never be the same for me.

i grew up here. familiar smells fill the air as i breathe in deeply, remembering all the memories of this place - good and bad.

like the time my brother taught me how to play video games. he brought his xbox into my room and hooked it up to the tv when i was sick once and taught me how to play call of duty. i sucked at it.

i laughed at the memory, but my happiness faded when i looked back at my bed and remembered one of the worst memories of all, when calum took my virginity and then left me.

i try to get the thought out of my head, burying my face in my hands for a moment and taking a deep breath.

i decide i don't want to think anymore. i open my dresser drawer and pull out a pair of ripped black jeans, and a new, clean tshirt.

i change quickly and throw on my shoes before running down the stairs to meet my mom.

her face has a mixture of excitement and frustration, and i don't know what to make of it.

"y-you okay?" i mutter. mom is flipping pancakes on the stove and she shrugs.

"i just don't understand how this happened."

"h-how what happened?" i sigh.

"how you got matched with a boy, luke." she said, irritation evident in her voice as she slid the cooked pancakes onto a plate and put some more batter into the pan to cook them.

"i don't know- t-there's nothing we can do about it." i shrug. i know if my mom wanted to, she could go down to the government building and raise hell, but thats not what i wanted. i may be pissed that i was matched with michael, but that's better than being stuck with a girl.

my mother rolled her eyes. i could tell she didn't want to talk about it anymore.

"they dropped off your keys today." she muttered.

"oh, cool." i said.

the tension in the air was so high i felt as if i was suffocating. i wanted to be anywhere but here.

"are you going to get ahold of michael? so you can get settled in?"

i nodded. i was dreading talking to him, but i didn't want to be home anymore. i just wanted to get this over with.

___

after talking to michael on the phone, we agreed that since he has a range rover, he'd come to my house to pick up my things.

my car is a boring old kia, which was falling apart and rusted all over, but it got me from one place to another so i could appriciate that at the least.

my kia wasn't good for transferring big objects, though.

just our cars brought up another issue with michael and i. he came from a wealthy family, and i was a middle class family. michael could be a spoiled brat at times, which is something that's gonna take a while to get used to.

i saw his car pull up, and michael walked up to the porch.

i let him in and we got to work, packing my stuff into boxes and getting it into his car.

__

it literally took the entire day - most of it spent in awkward silence- to get luke's things out of his parents house and moved over, and then getting michael's into the house as well.

they finally finished, and now it was time to start unpacking.

"luke, there's a built in sound system in here!" michael gushed.

i nod.

"come on luke, you can't shut me out forever, we'll have to talk about this sooner or later." he sighed.

avoiding that conversation at all costs, i set down one of many boxes of clothes that i was carrying and looked up at him.

"play some fall out boy." i said.

a huge smile came over michael's face.

"good choice."
