I got a call the day before. An unknown number. We were told to meet up at the docs on the lake. After I hang up the call, I walk downstairs into the living room and find my inner circle fighting over the remote."You always chose what to watch," Liam exclaims, climbing over Charter and trying to get the remote in his hand over his head."You chose last time, besides you can't get it anyway," Carter says, trying to push Liam off him.
I cough to announce my presents and to break them up. "I got a call. We meet with them at the docs at 9," I say walking into the kitchen. "Also Liam chooses," I say, starting to prepare dinner.
I have never thought having Madis or Butlers was right. Having someone clean up after you and them getting treated less than human. Absolutely not. When my father was here he had maids do everything for him and treated them like shit. Growing up around that gave me new respect for women. They clean up after a man that is more vile than the devil himself and getting less than minimum wage is a gift.
Liam grabs the remote out of Carter's hands and turns on his TV show. Liam is so soft compared to how he was raised. He trained all of his life to fight and kill. His father was a hitman. That's when we found him. We became friends and when he realized there is another way of living he came to live with us.
Carter grew up with the most normal and stable family in this town. Both of his parents are still alive and together. But he got into drugs and almost ruined his life until we found out who our main buyer was. We normally don't get involved in our regular customers' lives but when we found out he was sixteen and had run away from home. We took him in and got him sober.
His parents came a few times looking for him but we told them he wasn't there. He was ashamed of what he did and didn't want to return home, disappointed in himself. After a while, he reconnected with his family and explained everything. He decided to stay here with us.
They are complete opposites but get along so well. At times. But overall we balance each other out.
"Ugh your show is so boring," he says laying back on the couch. "Well if you're so bored you can come help me," I say as I pull out a pot and fill it with water from the tap. Carter gets up from where he is sitting and walks into the kitchen. "Shread the cheese," I say turning on the heat to boil the water and pulling out a pan for the meat and sauce. "Who was the caller," he asks watching what he was doing careful not to cut himself.
"I'm not sure, I guess we will find out," I say adding the pasta to the bowling water. "Do you think it's dangerous?" he asks looking up at me and stopping what he's doing. "Nothing we can't handle," I get out the sauce and meat. "Should we bring security?" he asks moving the cheese to a small bowl.
"Have them on speed dial in case this goes south," I say leaning against the counter as I wait for everything to heat up. "Will do. Do you have a bad feeling about this?" he asks with his arms crossed over his chest. "Who wouldn't," I say, opening the meat and string it around in the pan separating the pieces. I let it sit and warm up while I mix the pasta in the pot so they don't stick together.
After mixing the pasta around for a little bit I focus back on the meat and make sure it is all cooked event before adding the sauce. "Hey, can you take over on the pasta? I should be almost done, just needs to be strained in the sink," I ask opening the sauce can and adding it to the meat. "Yeah, yeah. I know how to make pasta," he says rolling his eyes at me. Anyone else and I would have set them in their place.

After a while we get dressed in more perofeional attire and walk out the door. "Whcih car?" I ask before getting the key. "The dagger," Liam and Carter say in unison. "So be it,"
We slip in the car with me driving, Carter in the passenger seat, and Liam in the back. "Which doc are we going to?" Carter asks so he knows where to tell security to be hidden just in case.
"Not sure, it's close to the pier," I say driving off the property. "Okay, I will just tell them to follow us," he says typing away on his phone. The drive shouldn't take too long. So I don't turn on the radio. We just sat in silence for a while. It's not the awkward silence, but one where we all know that we are thinking about something.
I drive to the pier and look around to see if I can spot these people. It's hard because we have no idea what they look like but I'm betting they will be in a group together around a few expensive cars trying to be intimidating.
"I don't see anyone here," I say, slipping back into the dagger. "Let's drive around for a little bit to see if we can find them," Cater says next to me looking out the window.
I normally love driving, mostly racing but we have to move slowly along the coast to look for them and I'm getting impatient.
"There! Found them!" Liam exclaimed from the back seat, making all of us jump. I look to where he is pointing and there they are, just as I thought they would be. A bunch of guys standing around expensive cars. "Tell security to stay back," I say pulling up, and putting the car in park.
"Why? Don't we want more people?" he asks confused. "No, just trust me," I say, slipping out of the car. "Follow my lead," I say as we all walk up to them single file me in the front. Once I stop in front of them, Liam and Carter come to my sides, standing right behind me.
"You called?" I ask with an annoyed expression. "Yes, we did," Someone says from the group. I looked around to find who was talking. I see a younger kid about my age walk toward the front of the group wearing a black leather jacket, dark blue jeans, and a gray shirt. Causal. Interesting.
"I have called you here to talk about someone in your town who has something that I want. I hope that you already know of this?" he says, his tone aggressive. "I believe you may be mistaken. I know everything about this town, and there is nothing here that you could ever want. Besides that who are you?" I ask hurting his ego. But its true I have never seen these people in my life. And that is saying something.
"Nothing you need to know," he says, his teeth gritted together. Someone has a temper. "You are the one who came into my town. If you are a threat believe I should know who you are," I say with a booming voice.
"If you don't give me what I want I will be a treat. A very dangerous one at that," he says with his arms extended showing off the group behind him. "Dangerous? Please. Most of your men look way too young. Probably haven't seen death yet. The other half can't pick up a gun without being out of breath. Don't try to play this game with me, because I will win every fucking time," I say taking a few steps toward him.
"It sounds to me that you don't even know what's in your own town. Now that seems like I have found a weakness," he says, trying to scare me off. "Continue telling me your whole plan," I say, crossing my arms and trying to stay patient.
"There's a girl in your town that is the heir to Cora. She is trying to keep hidden. The name is Brooklyn Davis. Her father was Rowan Davis. Mother Alexandra Davis. Does any of this ring a bell?" He asks stepping forward.
I tense up at this news. Angry with myself for not knowing this and even madder that someone I have never seen before knows my town better than I do. "You touch her and your dead," I say putting my hand over the gun that's tucked into my belt hidden by my coat.
"Do so and your next," he says not moving from where he was standing.
