Adam walked along the streets of London, following the crowd of red-clad protesters. He saw banners and placards with slogans like "Down with the Tory dictatorship!", "Workers of the world, unite!", "Socialism or barbarism!", and "No war but class war!".
He felt a mix of emotions: excitement, fear, anger, pride. He felt like he was part of something bigger than himself. Something historic. Something revolutionary.
He looked around and saw familiar faces: his comrades from the Socialist Party (CWI), his friends from school and college, his fellow workers from the supermarket where he worked part-time. He also saw strangers: people of different ages, races, genders, backgrounds. People who shared his ideals and aspirations.
He smiled and waved at them. They smiled and waved back. They chanted together:
"What do we want?"
"Socialism!"
"When do we want it?"
"Now!"
They marched towards Hyde Park, where they were supposed to meet other protesters from different parts of London and beyond. They hoped to form a massive demonstration that would reach Parliament Square and force the government to step down.
But they didn't know that their march was being watched by hostile eyes.
On the rooftops, in the alleys, in the cars, there were snipers, spies, saboteurs. They belonged to different factions: some were Blue loyalists who wanted to defend the status quo; some were Royalists who wanted to restore monarchy; some were far-right fanatics who wanted to create a white supremacist state.
They all had one thing in common: they hated the Reds more than anything else.
And they had one goal: to stop them by any means necessary.
They waited for their orders. They waited for their targets. They waited for their moment.
And then they struck.
