Lilly's P.O.V.
I'm thankful for Jenny taking my mind off of things, and she seems like she would be a great friend if we both make it in. I hear the door click open and everyone else in the room looks up, awaiting the name that will be called out. "Lillian Gutierrez?" That's me. Oh jeez, it's my turn. I slowly stand up and collect my things. My feet feel like they are encased in concrete as I walk toward the door. The whole world around me slowing down. When I walk through and the door closes behind me I see a table with an empty seat on one side, obviously where I am supposed to sit, and four people sitting on the other side. "Miss Gutierrez, please have a seat" says the lady in the middle. I take my seat and slide my folder of information over to the woman who just spoke. "Thank you. Introductions. I am Amy Turner, I am the representative for music here at Julliard. The gentleman to my left is Brock Winter, he is the representative for dance. The gentleman to my right is Alec Grey, he is the representative for drama. The gentleman next to him is Victor Johnson, and he is the president of Julliard. Do you have any questions?" I take a second to take in all the information she has given me. I take a breath, "I'm honored to be here, and I am sure you get a lot of the same questions. I know why I want to be here at Julliard, and I am sure you will get to that question for me momentarily, but that is the question I have for you. Why teach at Julliard?" They all looked stunned, they surely weren't expecting that as a question. That was the plan all along, throw them off with a question they weren't expecting so that they are in the hot seat for a minute. "I knew Julliard was for me shortly after my grandmother took me to see The Wizard of Oz on Broadway. That night changed my life and in my research for making theater my life I learned of Julliard, and knew it was what I wanted." said Mr. Grey. I nodded with a smile. "I didn't originally have my eyes set on Julliard," Mr. Winter begins, "I was on multiple Broadway productions, and toured with many musicians. However, one day on tour I slipped and needed surgery. I was told I would never dance professionally again, but I couldn't give up on dance. I eventually made it here to Julliard" I absorbed what he had said and smiled at him. "I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, and once I was older my mother insisted I needed to hear the Symphony, that it would change my life. The next day we went to the local music shop and I tried the clarinet. When I held it in my hands, I knew it was what I wanted. My dream was the Chicago Symphony, and I made it. I played for the Symphony for five years before deciding to help others achieve the same dreams I had." finished Mrs. Turner. The president didn't answer, "Now, it's your turn miss Gutierrez" I take a breath. "It seems everyone has a similar story. I remember my first Broadway show, The Lion King. I remember my little sister being so excited watching the performers on the stage, but I could care less. From the first note of Circle of Life my eyes were on the orchestra. I watched this one woman all night. The way she handled the violin was hypnotizing and I knew I had to try it myself. When we left that night I instantly started begging for the instrument I couldn't name. Probably drove my parents crazy until they also took me to the local music store. The clerk helped me figure out the instrument I now love is the violin. I started playing at nine, and told myself I would one day be sitting in that same seat the violin lady sat in. And Julliard is the perfect school to help me achieve that dream."
I walked out into the sunlight and found my family sitting on a bench. "There she is!" Vivi yelled jumping up from the bench. I walked over to my family who all looked nervous. "So? How did it go?" Vivi asked impatiently. I looked at my family before taking a breath I didn't realize I had been holding, "I got in."
