JESSA

Chock-full people are hurrying back and forth across the street as we stand still and watch the chaos. Male and female wander about and sprint while carrying large baskets. Ventors shout for their products, people gossips with their blaring voices, the wheels from carts rattle loudly against the stone pavement.
"Now what?" Tanong ni Stefan sa amin.
None of us answered and just stood still. Liam shifted uncomfortably behind me.
Every house is two stories tall, with tens and stores facing the street. From here, I can see the twinkling gems and jewelries and the vibrant colors of the fabrics. The aroma of raw meat and spices are wafting through the air. Big signages crowd the overhead vision with its lively colors.
Saan kaya tayo nito madadala?"
Umikot ako at tinignan ang sinasabi niya. There are six coins on his large hand, all with little dents, indicating that they had been used previously.
"Let's try?" I ask the two.
Liam stretches out his hand to get the attention of the old lady vendor, and asks.
The lady squinted her eyes and calculated the coins in his hands.
Tumingin sa amin si Liam, a silent question if we should buy one. Kaya tumango na ako sa kanya to tell him to buy the bread.
My eyes followed the hand of the lady as she took the bread wrapped in translucent plastic. I can imagine how soft that bread would be, how it would melt in my mouth... yum. My stomach grumbled and I gulped.
The bread feels so warm in my hands.
I peel off the plastic and take a big bite, almost crying because it tastes so good. It melts so well in my mouth, and every bite feels so warm.
I asked, out of the blue.
"Ganun ba," she says, putting down her bag full of coins. "Tumakas kagabi ang prinsesa kasama daw ang isang estranghero."
Stefan gives me a nervous look but I only glare at him. "Po? Bakit po? Ano naman po ang balita?" I asked.
