Amber smiled at the documents in her hands, a sense of triumph radiating throughout her. Her name wasn't based off of the myth. No, not according to the letter that her adoptive parents sent her. They had named her Ambrosía because of special she seemed to be, even as a newborn whose parents had left her on their doorstep.
Though she was pleasantly surprised when her and Victoria's adoptive parents concurred to explain her name, she was also worried. Their eyes had seemed glossy and they had looked rather unwell. It was almost as if they were under a spell. Pushing aside that silly thought, Amber shook her head and beamed down at felt like her new name. Ambrosía Lethia-Nyx Korpse. It was perfect and it was all hers.
Speaking of perfection... Andy was supposed to visit by her dorm for a little mythology tutoring. There was a faint knock at the door. Ambrosía slid her paper into a desk drawer and went to open the door. Her hand hadn't even reached the door when it pushed itself open, shock spilling over her mind. Worse yet, her eyes met brown ones instead of blue ones.
Hektor.
He smirked, the fingers of the right hand fiddling with a skull ring on the left ring finger. Her own ring, the lunar pentagram of Nyx, turned cold. It was as if the simple piece of jewelry was trying to warn her. Protect her. She brushed aside the silly notions, her eyes trained on the new student. Likewise, his were focused on her.
"What are you doing here?" her voice level, but shaking softly.
Hektor took a step towards her, entering her rather spacious dorm. Amber took a backwards step, her blood feeling icy. Danger. She felt, and swore she could see, waves of danger and anger coming off of the man before her. Vaguely, she remembered a picture she had drawn of Hades when she was seven. If Hektor switched out his modern clothing for a Greek robe and wore a crown of human skulls, Hektor would look one hundred percent like her feeble illustration.
"Lord Hades, what the fucking hell do you want?!" Amber screamed.
She just called him Hades...? And Hektor's smirk only widened, turning into a dark and knowing smile. He ventured closer, trapping her to the wall. Her body froze, terror consuming her soul and heart. The tiny birthmark, a jagged line which closely resembled a scar, began to burn.
"So, you're awake in there afterall... My Ambrosia?" his fingers rubbed circles into her cheeks.
"Lord Hades, I belong to no one in this life. Or in any life," she heard herself snarl.
"Not even your dearest Andreas?" Hades/Hektor mused.
"Andreas does not remember. Please leave it so! I beg thee, Lord Hades! He is safer this way!" tears ran down her cheeks.
What was she saying? What was he saying?! Amber prayed that this was a mere dream, brought on by too many Monster Energy drinks and not enough time outside. A small part of her brain was trying to force herself awake. The majority was as terrified as it was interested, waiting bitterly to discover what would happen next. Hades brushed his lips against her forehead, his fingers pushing aside her bangs.
"You'd have me give you my kiss of death without even telling your warrior who he is? Without telling him what he is?"
"Andreas is protected in his ignorance," she vowed.
"Oh, but he isn't... I can still crush his skull beneath my heel if I deem so fit!" Hades hissed.
"You wouldn't dare truffle with him, least you remember my mothers? Or, doth thou have the memory of a foolish jester?"
Hades frowned, not sure if her modern soul spiced up her true heart or tarnished it. Her blue eyes, darker now that the petals had bloomed, glared unswayingly into his own. Ambrosia had grown a backbone, one of diamond coated steel. The flower wasn't going to budge. His captive reached up and touched the birthmark.
