"Wei Ying..." Lan Wangji called out loud, not knowing what to do. His facial expressions appeared so lost that if it was some other time, Hua Ying would've rolled on the ground, laughing until his ribs started aching. But this clearly was NOT a time like that.
"Let me go... Let me go!! I want my baba and a-die..." He cried uncontrollably, while thrashing around to break free from the restraints that held him in place. And that's exactly what it took for Lan Wangji's 'guests' to barge into the sleeping area.
"A-niang!"
"Ma!"
"What have you done to my jiujiu?!" The three boys exclaimed in unison and the first two ran past Wangji to embrace their mother as the last one furiously turned towards the guilty man.
"I-" He seemed so lost about the whole situation, yet for the first time in his life, he firmly stood against morality and decided to break his clan rules to keep the man he loves far away from harm.
He didn't care about the method he had to use, it's enough to lose him once for thirteen long years. Now, as long as his Wei Ying stays where he belongs, beside him- safe and sound for the rest of his life, he didn't mind going against the entire world-again, if he had to.
Yet, seeing him breaking down like this, didn't settle well with his heart or mind and he didn't like to force his beloved like this either. Wei Ying is like the spring breeze of a wonderful spring day-warm, free, joyful and most importantly, untamable. Confining him here will only break him down further.
But, what else can he do? The moment he lets go, Wei Ying will definitely go after the traces of Yin Hu Fu-which somehow had been recreated by a mysterious demonic cultivator. Inevitably, that will expose Wei Ying's identity as the Yiling Laozu sooner or later and those cultivation clans would once again gather the forces to eliminate him for once and for all.
Even if he had to keep Wei Ying tied up and lock his spiritual powers for the rest of his life, even if Wei Ying decided to hate him for that, Lan Wangji didn't dare to let go. Losing him again and living without him for the rest of his life- he cannot tolerate that again.
"Let my jiujiu go!" Feng Ling growled, breaking Lan Wangji's thought bubble.
"No!"
"What do you mean by 'no'? Can't you see how he is breaking down like a goddamn baby? You can't do this to him!" Hua Xuanyu also joined in, eyeing his mother break down in Shizui's embrace.
"It's not safe. Can't lose him again." Lan Wangji stubbornly held onto his ground, not bothering about the fuming kids to the slightest.
"Hanguang Jun... It's only been a day since my mother woke up from his coma. If it wasn't for A-Yu, A-niang would still be in his coma, recovering and healing. It's not good to stress him like this right after he wakes up. He is- in fact, still weak from all that happened to him years ago. I suggest you let him go. If he wants to be here, he will. If not, he won't. You can't force him." Despite the situation, Shizui reasoned in a genetically inherited calm and collected tone, which even surprised the ever so stoic hanguang jun.
"It's not sa-" Before he could stubbornly refuse the child again, a knock at the door disturbed their conversation and Lan Wangji gladly walked away to receive the call.
"Hanguang Jun, there is a problem at Mingshi and your presence is required there." A disciple informed and the people in the bedroom heard the man answer with a simple 'Mn'.
"Stay. Don't try to release him. It won't work." Not long after, Lan Wangji's order came through before he walked out to check the matter.
"What kind of man is that?" Feng Ling humphed, agitated about the whole fiasco as he bent down to untie the ropes. Yet, before he even had the chance to touch them, a painful wave of lightning passed through his meridians, temporarily freezing him in place.
"So that's why he said that it won't work." Xuanyu mumbled thoughtfully, not knowing what kind of words he should use to describe Lan Wangji.
"Fuck you!" Right after he recovered from that shock, Feng Ling cursed like a mad dog, receiving a disapproving glare from his cousin.
"A-Ling!!" Shizui scolded in a hushed tone, both to warn Feng Ling about his language and to remind him to keep his voice low because he didn't want to see his mother, who cried himself to sleep, wake up again to continue crying.
So he carefully laid his mother on the bed and snuggled closer after placing a soft kiss on Hua Ying's tear stained cheekbone. Hua Xuanyu also followed his brother and snuggled closer to his mother from the other side, inhaling the soft lotus fragrance that came from his mother's hair. Even though he scoffed seeing the situation, Feng Ling also joined the party, lying closer to Shizui's warm back and they all fell into a peaceful slumber together- or so they thought.
It was sometime after- maybe a considerable time after that they all stirred awake to a wiggling Hua Ying, who appeared like he was going through a nightmare. Yet when Shizui tried to shake him awake, Hua Ying started crying again, desperately calling for Lan Wangji.
"Lan Zhan... No! Lan Zhan... Come out of there... Leave them. You- leave them all! Lan- Lan Zhan!!" Hua Ying shouted even in his sleep, as if something was horribly wrong.
"Should we go and check up on hanguang jun?" Xuanyu asked, not sure about what to do.
"I suppose..." Shizui murmured, carefully examining his mother's stressed features. After a while, he made the decision.
"Look after mother. I'll go and check hanguang jun." He hurriedly instructed before sprinting out of Jingshi.
"Wait up!" Feng Ling shouted before he also started running after Shizui, leaving Hua Ying at Hua Xuanyu's care.
"Lan Zhan..." Not giving enough time for Hua Xuanyu to process what just happened, Hua Ying called again, this time much more stressed than before.
"Whatever you are doing old man, I hope you will stop it right now. I don't want to see my mother like this anymore..." Hua Xuanyu whispered, his voice devoid of any emotion. Yet, when he saw his adoptive mother's increasing distress, his stormy grey eyes flashed with a crimson fire as his whole body emitted a thin cloud of resentful energy.
