belly sat in the booth at dennys with all of her friends, all of them. nick, chris, matt, cylia, alyson, lexi, and macie

it was an awkward silence other than alyson and lexi talking about some guy lexi met at target the other day, and macie and nick arguing over whose glasses looked cooler

matt was just sipping from his root beer glass, belly was drinking from her water glass, and chris was looking in between them with cylia

"okay for gods sake you guys have to talk!" chris exclaims "matt and belly"

"we talked, three days ago" belly says

"yeah! because you had a research project together" macie says

"well we talked a lot about mesopotamia, mesopotamia is important!" matt exclaims

"yeah it is" belly looks down

"so what is everyone doing for valentines day in two weeks?" lexi asks

"very good time to bring that up!"

the whole group was in the triplets van, and they had already gotten to the triplets house. they now referred to it as the 'sleepover hut'. belly was getting out of the car to follow everyone inside before matt called her name

"hey izzy, can you stay for a moment?" he asks

"uh" she looks at his front door closing "yeah"

she closes the backseat door and transfers to the passenger seat, both of then staying quiet for a moment

bellys hands were both on her lap, her eyes focusing on them

"why did you swerve me that day?"

the questions slips right off his tounge, like it didnt matter him asking

"well, matt. we only went on one date, and you did it because the lacrosse boys were there" belly says

"no i didnt" he mumbles

"matt you did, you saw that they were staring right at us and you wanted to show off" she tells him

"no! i didnt want to show off what we had, i wanted to show you off!" he exclaims

"me?" she asks

"yes, izzy!" he says

"why me?"

"because theres this boy on the team who keeps on saying how he wants you and how hes gonna ask you out and hes always saying that i could never pull anyone so i just wanted to show him that i got the girl that he wanted because he isnt the only one who wants you!" matt rants, intertwining his hands with hers

"so im practically just someone you use to make another person jealous?" belly raises her eyebrows

"no!" he shakes his head

"it sounds like that to me" she crosses her arms

"izzy im in love with you!"

the words cause the ice around bellys heart to melt, like someone had thrown a bucket of hot water at it

"the only question is, are you in love with me?" he asks quietly

belly opened her mouth, but no words came out. not a single one

"forget it, it was stupid" he unlocks his door

"matt" she grabs ahold of his arm "im in love with you too"

the words didnt feel forced, her feelings didnt feel forced, it felt right.

matt got in the car and looked straight at her

"do you really mean that?" he asks

"ive never meant anything more than i do now"

matt leans over the center console, his chest resting on it, and kisses her. belly rests her hand on his cheek.

"we should get inside" she pulls away

"you just cant wait to get away from me huh?" he smiles

"no i can wait" she tells him

"come here" he pulls her in again
