A/N: wow, a lot of you guys actually like this book :) anyway, I literally had no idea how to write this part, so I kind of just really forced myself past this, so excuse the weirdness and terribleness of this chapter, I'll try to do better and fight off writers block!! :D anyway yeah. Sorry for the wait and everything, I hate writers block. -_-

Hiccup was taken aback when the princess had half-demanded half-requested to see their dragons. He'd been given strict orders from his dad to give the princess anything she wanted, to meet her needs and every request. This counted, right? He'd expected the princess to want to stay far away from the "beasts", for fear of getting eaten, or getting her dress dirty, at the very least.
But there was a dauntless, fearless look in her eye and she flashed a daring grin at him.
Hiccup was at once intrigued and confused by the princess. He'd been told princesses in the highlands were supposed to be prim and proper, dainty and poised, pretty and careful. Not that the princess wasn't pretty. She definitely was, but she moved more with a ruthless grace than a daintiness. Then again, he'd heard that from Yohan the trader, so how reliable could the information be?
Several moments later as he complied reluctantly to the princess' request, he watched nervously and standing nervously to the side in the living room of his house as she outstretched a slender hand toward a scaly muzzle, a wondrous expression on her face.
Toothless's large green eyes concentrated on her hand, now an inch away from his skin.
She withdrew her hand slightly, blinking once. Then, as if gathering herself and her confidence once more, she placed her hand ever so gently on Toothless' muzzle.
Her mouth was slightly open in awe as she slowly began to glide her hand across his skin. Toothless held still and received the attention.
"The unholy offspring of lightning and death itself," she breathed, as if she hardly dared to believe it herself.
Hiccup laughed nervously. "Yeah, that's Toothless."
Then a giant grin broke out on her face. "Wait till my dad hears this! Oh, he'll hardly believe it. It'll beat his bear story, for certain." She perked up suddenly as if with another idea. "Wait till the triplets hear about this! They'll want to try it for themselves, and sail here as soon as they get half a chance."
As her excitement grew, so did Toothless'. He grinned a toothless smile with his tongue hanging out, and leapt to his feet. Merida yelped as he bounded past her, knocking her to the floor in the process, and leapt around the house.
Hiccup gasped and immediately rushed to her aid. "Oh gods, are you okay? I'm really sorry, he just gets excited about meeting new people-"
He prayed that she wasn't hurt, or he'd surely hear about it from his dad later. She was practically his responsibility now, he had to make sure she received the best treatment."For someone who just met a live dragon, not to mention the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself, I feel okay," she replied, as Hiccup grabbed her hand with both of his and pulled her up. She flashed him a grin as Toothless slowed to a stop and smiled a toothless smile up at her.
She gasped as a new thought suddenly struck her. "Can you ride him? If he's trained? Can we ride him now?"
Once again, Hiccup was caught off guard. "What- now? Isn't a little too late? It's already night."
The princess drew in a slow breath. As straightened herself, drew her shoulders back, and regained her composure.
"You are right. I must retire for the evening." She clasped her hands in front of her and walked to the door. "Thank you, Hiccup, for acquainting me with your dragon. I'll see you tomorrow." And then she was gone, and Hiccup was left standing alone in the room, staring at the door, his mind reeling.
