Chapter 1

New Beginnings

Y/n stood in front of a high rise apartment building, her suit case rolling behind her as she stared up at the modern chic architecture with suspended disbelief. She knew her old Principal had pulled a few strings to get her out of her old district, but to think he would go this far.. Her hands clenched into fists, which she hid by shoving them into her pockets. To anyone else she must have seemed ungrateful, but she knew the actual meaning behind all this lavishness.

She walked into the front entrance, feeling oddly out of place amongst the pristine high class furniture. The foyer was enormous. There was a front desk, the desk itself being a shiny marble covered in a off-white stone surface. The floor was practically sparkling, the diamond tiles cleaned to perfection. Behind the front desk were spiral stairs leading upwards, and to the right of the front desk were the elevators. A chandelier hung from the ceiling, the spandrels lined in an intricate gold pattern. Behind the front desk sat a young man, who looked up once he heard the front door open.

"Hello Ma'am, welcome to Nomura Apartments! We apologize for our Door Man's absence, he's on holiday this week. My name is Tsukumo Hakaku, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. May I have your name?" The young man greeted her, a polite formalness to his tone. He had dark brown hair, and even darker brown eyes. He was noticeably tanned; maybe he spent a lot of time outdoors? Y/n had a tendency to ponder on what kinds of lives others lived based upon their appearance, and the look in their eye.

"Hello. I'm L/n Y/n, I was arranged to be living here for the next year," She approached the front desk, shifting so that her suit case was now at her side. Tsukumo typed her name into his computer, nodding with a hum. "Ah yes, Nomura-San informed me last week. Your apartment is 13D, just take the elevator to the thirteenth floor and walk two doors to your left." He reached into a drawer behind the desk, taking out two keys and handing them to the (hair color) haired girl.

"Your key and a spare, be careful not to lose them!"
Y/n bowed, thanking him and bidding him a nice day as she walked over to the elevators.

It was a short walk down the hall to her apartment once she reached the appropriate floor, and upon entering her new living space she felt a knot build in her stomach. She scowled at the furniture around the neat apartment. It was rather large for a single person housing unit. As you walk in the kitchen directly in front of you, the stove and fridge up against the wall and an island with a sink adjacent to it, more in line with the front door. To the right was the living space, a dark maroon couch with a small modern looking kotatsu in front of it. A TV was mounted on the wall, the remote to it laying on the kotatsu next to a vase of flowers and a small note.
Y/n walked over, reading the note briskly.

"L/n-San,

I do hope your living arrangements prove to be adequate. The SIU director was gracious enough to allow you to join his department as an apprentice, so you should be very grateful for this opportunity. Just do as you're told, and no problems should arise. You will be expected to report to your new school for a check-in to pick up your uniform and to discuss your schedule at 2 p.m today. And next week on Monday you will report to the office at the provided address below and begin your apprenticeship. We will cover your first rent payment, but after that the responsibility will fall on you. Represent your home town proudly, L/n. We're all counting on you.

- Principal Mitsuhara"

Y/n crumpled the note up, throwing it off to the side. "Piss off with that," She seethed to herself. That man was so pretentious.
She looked over to the right, noticing the door to the bedroom was ajar. She walked in, sighing as she sat on the edge of the unfamiliar twin sized bed. What a bare room.. Nothing like her room at home. Speaking of home.. She quickly pulled out her phone.
