Heyo! I added a "Things to Keep in Mind" chapter to the beginning of this book, highly recommended that you check it out! It some insight that is very important to the story, and some details that we might not get to until later.

Also, I hope you enjoy the little sketch! It's not the best since I only spent like 2 hours on it, but I draw a lot of concept art for this book and it motivates me to write. I tried to give her a 'uncomfortable in my own skin' look, since that's basically Y/n's spot in the story right now. Hopefully you guys like seeing my art!

Thank you for reading, as always <3

Chapter 3

New Job

Monday

Y/n's Sunday had been uneventful, due to her basically knocking out the full day. She had severely underestimated her fatigue from the volleyball match, and the soreness was too much for her to deal with the following morning. But now as Monday rolled around, she was forced to face reality.

For the first time in about 24 hours (mild exaggeration), she lifted herself from her bed as her alarm blared in her ear. Her mind felt hazy, her long day of sleep catching up to her. Once she had peeled herself from the warmth of the comforter, she took another second to gain her ability to think back.

Today was Monday.. Her first day at the station. She felt the anxiety creeping in. Great.

First things first, she decided to take a shower. Washing away the haze in her mind with refreshing warm water always woke her up well enough most days. Y/n was brisk with her shower, making sure she had time to blow dry her hair afterwards. It was incredibly fluffy, always puffing out in random curls. She regretted getting her hair cut in layers. It was pulled into her regular ponytail.

Once she was nice and dry, she had her clothing situation to worry about.. Seeing as she was still a student, they probably wouldn't mind if she just wore her uniform to the job too, right? She dreaded having to dress up in some prim and proper suit three days out of the week for some shitty apprenticeship.

As she wrangled on the uncomfortable blazer over the white turtleneck (her blazer had to be a size too small), she had remembered briefly going over the weather last night during her before-bed phone time. It was supposed to be rather chilly today.. She looked over at her briefcase, which was still not fully unpacked. If she was smart, she would have took yesterday to unpack the rest but.. That's neither here nor there.

She could see a tuff of red material sticking out of the top, a bright red muffler she kept by her side at all times sticking out. She tried not to let memories cloud her mind as she grabbed the scarf, fiddling with the material in her hands.

It couldn't hurt to start wearing it again, right? She was so far from home, it was just a little reminder of the people who got her here.. She could still see her little sister's smiling faces when she had given them the idea of getting scarves to match her own.

'This can be our secret brigade! All six of us, and our matching scarves- we'll be like superhero's with super cool capes!'

She could still remember to this day, the triumph in her little heart was her sisters finally smiled at her for the first time. The material was worn out through the years, all the winters, autumns, and chilly spring days it endured. Reminiscing on those days always brought a smile on her face. Y/n and her sisters were all so young back then when they first met. But she had that scarf long before she properly met her sisters.

Y/n remembered the cold winter day she bought it. Back when she was so little she only reached up to her mother's thighs. She was with her best friend. She begged him to get matching red mufflers. She was such a brat back then, looking back on it. Thinking that far back turned her melancholic smile into a deadpan stare. She did her best to get the memories out of her mind. She might be back in the city, but that doesn't mean she should go down memory lane. The past stays in the past.
