TWENTY ONE,
never have i ever.—
LIKE A MIRAGE on a hot summer day, I thought I must be hallucinating. "Holy shit," I murmured to myself as I stared in disbelief at the sight before me. It was a small wooden shack, finally, after all this time we found a building in this maze of trees. I was ready to kick back and lounge around, even if it was only for a few hours.
I was ready to bust down the door and get out of these filthy clothes when he stopped me. He gave me this look, I rolled my eye in annoyance and pulled my bow from around my body. We slowly crept towards the entry door. I thought we would walk into a building like normal civilized people.
Oh, boy was I ever wrong, his foot made contact with the door and I could have sworn every walker in the mile radius heard him kick in the door. I follow his lead as he stormed into the shack with his crossbow drawn. It looked like someone had left in a hurry. A few empty bottles and papers were scattered all across the floor.
We took a look around the place and made sure no one was still living there. Whoever this guy was he had a major alcohol problem. beer bottles were stashed everywhere, the fridge, the counters, the floor. Most of them were still filled with bitter liquid. "We're gonna be here awhile, mine as well make the most of it," I said, popping open a bottle of the booze.
"Gonna have some?" I asked. Placing the bottle to my lips and taking a swig. He just shrugged his shoulders. It was strange, I had always taken him for the type of guy to get wasted on the weekends. "Live a little." I tossed him a bottle which he caught one-handed.
"Wanna play a drinking game?" I asked, it would be weird for us to sit in a room sipping away at a bottle for the next few hours not saying a word to one another. "I wouldn't know how to play." He said as he took a sip from the bottle. "Oh don't be like that, I'll teach ya." I raided the cupboards looking for some shot glasses.
With all the alcohol this guy drank it wasn't hard to find a few stashed away. I sat them down on the countertop. One for me and one for him. I filled them to the brim with the bitter beverage before taking a seat across from him. He didn't look too amused as his baby blue eyes stared down at the liquid.
"Okay so." I began. "For the game never have I ever the rules are simple, I ask you a question about something I've never done, and if you've done the thing you take a drink and vice versa," I explained, trying to keep the rules short so he would understand.
"Never have I ever owned a dog," I say. "So now if you've owned a dog you would take a drink, and if you haven't I would take a drink." He was catching on pretty quickly, or so I thought. I guess he had never owned a dog before. I picked the drink up and took a small sip.
"Alright, so it's your turn," I instructed. He thought for a second before shrugging his shoulders. Was I not explaining it well enough? "Just say the first thing that comes to mind," I say. Trying to keep the game progressing. He let out a sigh, I could feel he had other things he would rather be doing with his time.
"Ain't never been on a vacation." He said. For a person who doesn't open up much, a game like this would allow me to learn a bit about him. I guess I just assumed he traveled often since he had gotten good with a crossbow but I guess I was wrong. "Never been camping either?" I ask, to which he shook his head. I shrugged before taking another sip.
A few more rounds had passed, and I had taken way more drinks than he had. Who knew he would be so good at this? At this rate, I was going to be the only one drunk by the end of the game. I thought long and hard about something I haven't done that everyone else has. "Never have I ever had my first kiss," I say. He gives me a confused glance before taking a swig from the cup.
"What about your parents?" He asks. "They don't count as an actual first kiss." It was weird, with everything that has been going on with the world I had completely forgotten a bit of my past life. "Wanna give it a shot?" He asked, breaking me from my train of thought.
"What? With you?" I asked, taken back by his strange request. He took a quick glance around the room before turning his attention back to me. "I ain't see anybody else around." It may have just been because I was half drunk, but the fact I was considering it had me worried.
