Twenty-eight / Calum

We asked Blaine to immediately notify us when his brother returns from his mini-vacation with his girlfriend. Blaine did like we asked him to and here we are now, interrogating this phony doctor who was an accomplice in ruining Sandra's life.

It wasn't really in our agenda to force Blaine's brother into confession, but we wanted to make sure this kind of thing never happened again.

After two hours of questioning and just basically poking at his conscience so that he would confess, we were triumphant. Dr Hawk went straight up to whoever had authority over this kind of stuff, and was told that his medical license will be revoked and he will never work in the medical field ever again.

We felt sorry for the guy, we're not totally heartless, but we weren't sorry for what we did. As much as it sucked to see him jobless and humiliated, he deserved it. It's his fault why he lost his credibility.

Everything's in order now, and I guess the only things we have to do now is a.) Enjoy life while Carly's still around, and b.) Figure out a way to tell Luke without shocking him too much. It's not much, but this is going to be hard.

"We're good people," Austin suddenly says from the passenger seat.

We were on our way to tell Sandra of our progress. She's in Carly's house back in Columbus for caretaker duties. Austin and I were a bit suspicious because she was just there a few days ago, but what the hell. I'm done trying to figure out everything.

We would've called her instead of going through the trouble of driving all the way to Columbus, but we wanted to tell her in person. Plus, we didn't have the chance to hang out the past couple of days like we did before we went on full Sherlock Holmes mode, and Austin and I missed it.

"What do you mean 'we're good people'?" I asked him. "And take your goddamn feet off my dashboard."

He puts his feet down. "I mean, we just prevented a lot of damage in the future by taking down Blaine's brother, and we found Dev a home after his mom dies. I feel nice."

I shrug. "Well, I don't feel as nice as you do," I say. "I still have to figure out how we're going to tell Luke all about this stuff."

"Dude, that'll be easy. He'll freaking sing to the heavens because he doesn't have to worry about Carly or Dev anymore. Maybe he'll even get back with Sandra after all this," he assures me.

I decided to ignore what he said about this getting back together business for Sandra and Luke. "Easy for you to say," I scoff. "You don't know shit about Luke. He'll probably so pissed that we kept this from him for this long. He doesn't like being left out of important things-especially if he's greatly involved."

"Blah, blah, blah. Whatever," he replies. "I was kind of wondering if you had a job opening in the band. I'm starting to kind of hate school and I wanted to know if you could squeeze me into the picture."

"No, we don't need a new band member right now. Maybe in a few thousand years, though."

We arrived in Columbus shortly after that.

It only took one knock for Sandra to open the door. She was so shocked when she saw us, like we shouldn't be there right now. Oops, maybe we should've told her.

"What the fuck are you two idiots doing here?" She asks us, part-surprised and part-pissed.

"Can we come in?" Austin asks as he pushes the door wider and enters the house without Sandra telling him to. "Thanks."

So I had no other choice than to follow Austin's example. Sandra quietly shut the door behind her, as if there was someone else in the house besides her. Why is she acting like this?

"Look, you really can't be here right now," she tells us in a panicky tone. "I'm not playing around. You should leave, like, right now."

"But we have to tell you something important!" Austin exclaims. "You mean we drove two hours for just to be shoved out the door?"

"I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with him," I point at Austin. "So we talked to James Hawk, the doctor who was the main accomplice in faking the DNA test, and he gave up. He confessed that he did it, and they revoked him of his rights to practice medicine."

Sandra rolled her eyes so intensely that I could literally feel her rage in the atmosphere right now. "You could've just called me about that shit!" She angrily whispers.

"But we wanted to tell you in person!" Austin shouts. "So Blaine, Dev's real father, agreed to take care of the kid after Carly's sickness gets the best of her. They even talked about it, how great is that? Blaine went to see Carly a few days ago and I'm not really sure about it, but maybe they've mended their relationship in a way," he rants.

Sandra looked extremely pissed off right now. She palmed her face so hard that it should've erased her face after, and kept muttering scolding us that we should've just called her about it.

"Look, I'm thrilled to hear that we got that out of the way, but you really need to leave right now," she says with a very serious expression on her face. Wow, she's not really kidding.

"Why?" Austin asks.

"Austin, please. Just go, I'll explain everything to you back at the dorm and-" Sandra began to say, but Austin cut her off.

"No!" He yells. "Explain to us right now why you're acting so weird right now! We didn't drive for two hours just to hear shit from you."

"Please, keep your voice down," she whispers. She looks at me, as if asking for help to calm Austin down.

I put my hands on Austin's shoulders to calm him down, and I mutter to him that we should just listen to Sandra and leave, but he doesn't want to listen to anyone right now.

"Explain yourself!" He shouts yet again.

"SHUT UP!" A voice thunders through the whole house.

We all turned and saw Luke at the base of the staircase, red with anger. So much for breaking it down to him without shocking him too much.

"Luke, I can explain," Sandra pleaded.

"No!" Luke firmly said. He looked a hundred times angrier than Sandra was just moments ago. "You found the doctor who faked the test? Carly's dying? You know who the kid's real father is? How come I was never told of this stuff?"

I have never seen Luke this mad.

He's not really the guy to shout during arguments. Sure, he gets really annoyed at times and snaps occasionally, but this is not him. This is the only side of Luke I haven't seen, and unfortunately, we're all on his bad side as of now.

"I trusted you," he said. He looks at me. "Especially you, Calum."

He storms past us to get his car keys off the wall. He leaves the house and slams the door so loudly that it was almost possible that the door might've gotten a crack or something. And then we hear engine being revved and tires screeching against asphalt.

"I know where he's going," Sandra says and hurries to reach her phone.
