You sat alone in your car, boxes piled to the roof staring at your hands that gripped the steering wheel. You watched as your knuckles turned white before a tear crept out from the inner corner of your eye and spilled down on to your cheek. You didn't want to leave but you had to, your heart had been broken one too many times and you couldn't take it anymore.

You had thought this was forever, you and Andrew. Until the creeping suspicion set in, the late nights at work, the odd payments from your joint bank account, the business trips he would go on for days and not answer your calls. These suspicions became fact and your perfect suburban life came crashing down around you when you came home early from work one day and found Andrew in your bed with another woman. You forgave him that time...he apologised, he cried, he begged for your forgiveness and you gave it to him under promises that he would change, he would never do this again. But he did. Three times for that matter and that's when you realised that you didn't deserve this. Tonight was like all the others, Andrew was working late again, and going by previous events, that realistically meant he was bending his pretty new assistant over his desk, and you'd had enough. You packed as many of your belongings as possible into boxes and stacked them in the back of your car.

You had moved out of Hawkins to be with Andrew after your parents had tragically passed away leaving you alone at the ripe old age of 22. You and Andrew had been dating for about a year and you were happy with him, he had treated you well in the beginning but he didn't want to stay in Hawkins. You didn't want to leave initially, Hawkins was home to you, but to Andrew it was a shithole that he couldn't spend one more second of his life in and so you moved, a few towns over closer to the city. You grew to love it, you were living your white picket fence dream...until you weren't...until shit hit the fan with Andrew and his infidelity, and now here you are in your car, alone, at night, white knuckling the steering wheel to try and prevent the imminent waterfall of tears threatening to break free from behind your eyes. You were done.

You drove the hour or so to Hawkins, having to pull over occasionally so you could compose yourself, stop the tears and clear your vision. You pulled up outside your old home. The house had been left to you when your parents passed and you had used some of the money they left to freshen it up, intending to move into it with Andrew and settle down but that never happened. So you had rented it to a nice family who took care of it like it was their own. They had moved out just 1 month ago...perfect timing really given your current circumstances. So here you were again, just 3 years later back were you had started. Who would have thought that at 25 years old you would be back in Hawkins, single and totally alone...so painfully alone.

You lifted the last box across the threshold into the house and kicked the door closed behind you. It was bigger than you remembered and although it had been given a lick of paint and some new floors, it still had the old charm that you had missed so much. The tears began to fall again, but this time they weren't so sad, you were free...finally free. You wondered through the house, memories flooding back of all the happy times you had in this house growing up, you could almost hear the music and laughing in the kitchen, images of your parents cooking and dancing together. It made you sad, but the kind of sad that still allowed a smile to break across your face. Your reminiscing was interrupted by a knock at the door, you peered out the living room window and could see two figures standing by the front door but it was too dark outside to make out who they were. You opened the door cautiously, but as soon as you realised who your late night visitors were you flung the door open and squealed. 'Steve! Robin! Hi! Oh my god hi!' You were quickly tackled into a 3 way hug sandwiched between the two. Steve and Robin had been two of your best friends in high school, you did everything together in and out of school, even after you graduated you all got a job at scoops ahoy and worked together. You were the 3 amigos...inseparable. Until you moved away. You had been really good at visiting for a while, and then really good at calling, but eventually the communication fizzled out a bit and it became 1 phone call every couple of months.
Seeing them now made you feel so much better, more happy tears fell, as you sniffled into their shoulders telling them how much you had missed them. 'We missed you too loser!' Steve chuckled 'like so much' Robin followed as Steve ruffled your hair 'Now how about we help you unpack some of these boxes while we catch up', you nodded silently with a smile on you face. 'So how did you guys know I was back?' you asked. 'Triplet telepathy' Robin answered slowly, wiggling her fingers in your face as you giggled. 'Hopper' said Steve 'He called me when he saw your car outside and the lights on when he was on his last drive by...so I called Rob, and we came straight over' you looked up at him lovingly 'Well thank you...both of you' you said glancing over at Robin as she placed her hand on top of yours 'I really needed this'! The three of you continued to unpack while catching up, laughing about old memories before Steve and Robin eventually had to go. 'Oh I almost forgot' Steve began, 'we're having a little movie night tomorrow at my house and you're obviously coming...right?' You grinned at him again, watching him lean against the doorframe, 'I guess I could clear my schedule for tomorrow night' you answered sarcastically, Robin giggled at your response followed by a 'Yay, I can't wait' before the two of them headed off. Although it had been a joke...you really didn't have a schedule...in fact you had no idea what you were going to do here, but you'd figure it out sooner or later...life had thrown tougher things at you than this, you'd be fine.

The next morning rolled around, you woke up in the comfort of your old bed, although it felt strange sleeping alone. But you pushed past that stubborn sadness that lay just a little heavy on your heart. You put on the tv for background nose and made yourself some breakfast. What to do today!

It had been about a year and half since you last visited Hawkins. So you figured you'd take a walk down town and see what was new. It was warm in Hawkins today so you slipped into a cute baby blue summer dress that fell mid-thigh, paired with some chunky black boots...your style was a little mixed genre but you loved your clothes. You walked into the centre of town, only around 10 minutes walk from your house. Everything was much the same, you recognised a lot of the same people and even received a few waves and hellos from people you hadn't seen in years, it felt good, it felt like home. You mindlessly walked down the Main Street until you noticed a store you didn't quite recognise...it was a little music store, black door, vinyls in the window. The bell went off on the door as you stepped inside, there didn't seem to be anyone there. You wondered among the narrow aisles, flipping through discs, humming the tune of the music that was playing from the record player. You had kind of got lost in your own little world when heard a voice come from behind the counter. 'So you know Metallica' the guy muttered, kind of quietly but loud enough for you to hear. You registered the song you were humming 'I do..their new album is pretty good' you replied turning towards the voice. 'And justice for all' he continued, the first thing you noticed was his long black hair..a little messy but in an intentional way. 'That's the one' you said giving him a smile. He smiled back. He stepped out from behind the counter,  the second thing you notice was a tattoo, several bats scattered across the top of his forearm, he was wearing a loose band tee and black ripped skinny jeans and the chain hanging around his belt loops jingled as it hit against the top of his thigh with each step, the third thing. You felt a slight blush creep across your cheeks and so quickly turned back to the vinyls in front of you. The jingling got closer before he spoke again 'not that you need any recommendations, your music taste seems pretty decent but...' the tattooed arm reached across you, slightly brushing your own, 'this one is pretty damn good' you looked down at the vinyl in his hand *Dio - Dream Evil* 'Oh good pick....' You looked up to his face making eye contact 'Eddie' he filled in the gap. 'Eddie' you repeated before introducing yourself. 'You know y/n, you don't strike me as the metal kind' he chuckled looking down at your baby blue summer dress. 'No?' You questioned with a smirk 'there are a lot of things you don't know about me', he gave you a wide closed mouth smile but his eyes were warm. 'I'll take it' you said 'I'll ring you up', Eddie turned and walked back to the counter chains jingling again as he walked. You followed him and stood in front of the counter as he pressed the buttons on the till...large silver rings glinting in the sunlight that pierced through the front window...the fourth thing. Eddie handed you a paper bag with the vinyl wrapped up inside, you took it from him with a thank you. 'You're welcome and...nice to meet you' he said your eyes catching his again...deep brown doe eyes...the fifth. 'Nice to meet you too Eddie...I'll see you around' you turned to walk out of the store feeling the heat rise in your cheeks again. 'See you' you heard him yell before the bell on the door sounded again as you left. You couldn't help the smile that subconsciously appeared on your face as you walked away from the store. He was so nice...and so pretty. You would definitely be visiting that store again!
