The Date

Part 5

The next morning.

You opened your eyes, the sunlight peered around the curtains in your bedroom. You rolled over to check the clock...11am.

That has to be a record. Finally being at peace after a couple of very rough years was clearly paying off.

You stumbled out of bed and into the bathroom, turning on the shower. You had a couple of hours before Eddie was due to pick you up for your date...well your assumed date.

Maybe he was just being friendly, wanted someone to hang out with for the day. But either way your were going to have him all to yourself for a whole afternoon. You could really get to know him, find out about him, his life, his aspirations. And even if it was just as a friend you'd take it.

You got out of the shower and dried off. Squeezing your hair partially dry and putting it in a bun while you did your makeup. You put a little extra effort into it today. You didn't just want to look good for him, you wanted to feel good about yourself in hopes it would boost your confidence. You were already feeling super nervous, even though you and Eddie had spent a little bit of time alone together on the car rides between your house and the mall, this would be different. This was two people hanging out...for several hours...on purpose.

You knocked yourself out of your thoughts and continued getting ready. You blow dried your hair and curled it a little bit at the ends, you pulled your hair back in to a half ponytail, letting the front strands hang loose, before securing it at the back with a lilac bow which contrasted perfectly with your hair. Next was choosing the outfit. You dug through your closet pulling out almost every skirt and dress you owned, you tried most of them on before throwing them in a 'definitely not' pile on the floor. You slumped down on your bed.

What are you doing. Why are you so flustered. Eddie has seen you in shorts and a jumper, in your work uniform with your day three hair pulled back into a slick ponytail, he's not going to care. But you cared...for whatever stupid fucking reason...YOU cared.

You continued in your pursuit for the perfect outfit before finally settling on a white summer dress, white sneakers and a lilac cardigan which matched the bow in your hair. You looked in the mirror at your masterpiece and you felt good. But then came the wave of doubt, was this too girly for Eddie? Was the matching cardigan and bow too much, was the dress too short...you didn't even know what he was planning to do, so was this even suitable?

Snap out of it.

You knew this doubt in yourself came from the constant criticism from Andrew. How you only ever seemed to look good to him when you were naked. That paired with the self doubt that came along after he started cheating. How you would compare yourself to the girls he cheated on you with, your self confidence had plummeted from what it used to be. Those girls were skinnier and prettier and you never felt good enough. But you weren't letting this happen today, Andrew could be dead for all you cared, he hadn't even tried to contact you since you left...and you didn't want him too. Today was about you and Eddie, friends or whatever. You perked yourself back up and looked back in the mirror...you felt good about yourself and that's all that mattered.

You looked back at the time...1:40pm. Now you just had 20 minutes to stew in your own nervous thoughts before Eddie showed up. You huffed a sigh and went downstairs to grab something to eat in attempt to quell the anxiety induced nausea.

2pm rolled around, then 2:30, then 3. He had stood you up. Or maybe he had forgotten? Either way you felt slightly embarrassed and slightly stupid at how you had been sitting staring out the window waiting for Eddie to show up, at long you had spent getting ready, the effort you had made.
