The Darkest Time (Sequel to Love is War)

Chapter 5

Astrid stares into his eyes, hoping to see just that he is still there. But when she looks into his eyes, all she sees is a broken boy who is being used to get to his dragon.

"What did you do to him?" Astrid asks, hesitantly walking up to him. He doesn't move.

"We will leave you to see for yourself." And he and his men walk away. But Astrid can tell they want to stay and watch. And they do.

Astrid reaches out to touch his cheek. Just as she is about to touch him, his hand snatches her wrist. His grip is hard.

"Hiccup. Listen to me. It's Astrid. Your girlfriend. You would never hurt me. So don't change it know." But her words fall into deaf ears. She goes to pry his hand off of her but he grabs her other wrist.

"Hiccup." Valka speaks. He doesn't move his eyes form Astrid's. A chill runs down her spine as she look into those eyes. Snotlout walks up behind Astrid.

"Hiccup. Don't listen to what Alvin told you. Let go of Astrid." Something flashes in his eyes. She could of sworn she saw the lovely green color but quickly goes back to red. Hiccup is fighting it but want ever Alvin did to him is stronger.

She realizes his grip loosened and before it tightens, she yanks her arms away.

"Hiccup. If your still in there, speak to us." Hiccup looks over at the others. They looks scared and worried.

"Pain." He whispers.

"What?" Asks Valka.

"Pain. Years of pain. Rejection." He starts to fall backward but Snotlout and Astrid carefully set him on the sand. But when the touch him, he jumps back as if there touch burns.

"Hiccup. What are you talking about?" Valka says, kneeling in front of him. His red eyes show pain and something else. Hatred.

"Lies. All lies. Alone. No one cares. Hurt. All lies."

"Hiccup. Don't think that. We care about you." Astrid says going to put a hand on his arm but his is faster.

"Don't touch me. You don't care. You lied to me." He pulls her closer to look in her eyes. She still sees pain and hatred. But not some much pain. She knows that if they try to get him to listen, he will fight back and will fight them.

"Hiccup. Listen to m-"

"I'm done listening." And with that, the spark in his eyes have a total different meaning. This park is whatever is controlling him has full control. He tackles Astrid and holds her by the shoulders. Not gentle. Far from gentle.

Tears go to her eyes as pain goes through her right arm. She shuts her eyes, hoping that if whatever he is going to do, he will make it quick. She doesn't want to feel pain. Especially in the hands of Hiccup. Suddenly, the weight of Hiccup of thrown off. She hears a grunt. She eyes snap open and she sees Snotlout holding down a thrashing Hiccup. Valka and Ruffnut rush to Astrid and help her up. Tuffnut and Fishlegs walk up to Snotlout and Tuffnut gets his flaming sword from the spot on his pant leg..

Hiccup's head falls into the sand and he closes his eyes. Astrid realizes he has given up.

Astrid walks up to him and kneels by his head.

"Hiccup. Will you look at us? Can you please open your eyes?"

He mumbles something.

"What was that?" Asks Valka. He doesn't respond.

"Hiccup. Tell us. We are going to help you." Says Snotlout. Hiccup's eyes snap open and he backs away from them.

"No. Pain. Let's it. All I get is pain. " He stands up. The hatred is back. "You all hurt me."

Astrid walks up to him. "Hiccup no that's-" Just as she is about to grab his arm, he grabs her arm, spins her around and holds her arms around her back. She can't get her arms free and she sees the shocked looks their faces. She knows Hiccup would never harm her but this isn't Hiccup.

"Hiccup, listen to us. We won't hurt you." She sees Tuffnut pick up his flaming sword and walk behind them but Astrid doesn't say anything.

"Hiccup. Let me go. Please. We want to help you." Hiccup's grip loosens and Astrid pulls free but doesn't go far from Hiccup she staying in front of him.She sees Tuffnut walk next to her. He sends her a look and she is very hesitant. She knows what he wants her to do but she just got Hiccup to listen. but she does it anyway.

She grabs his arm and judo flips him so he lands on his back. With a dazed look on his face, Snotlout comes up and rips Hiccup's tunic, revealing Hiccup's hip. Tuffnut opens the sword and it lights up. He hurries over a presses the flat part of the sword to his hip. Hiccup screams out in pain. Astrid feels bad about doing this but it has to be done.

Tuffnut moves the blade and they all stare at Hiccup, waiting for him to open his eyes. When he does, his eyes are there normal green. Astrid sighs in relief. He looks over at them but quickly looks away. They all help him up and Astrid finally realizes how beat up he looks. Even with cuts and bruises and dirt, he still looks very handsome.

Astrid walks up beside him and takes his arm. He doesn't say anything but she can tell something is bothering her andshe has an idea what it is. They call their dragons and they get on and head home. But even with Hiccup back, things are going to be comlicated. Hiccup is broken and he isn't ready to tell them what happened. He isn't sure he ever will be able to tell them all.
