48. Gelato Place

Yoo Ae's POV

1:10 p.m.

That's what my wrist watch showed when I checked the time. I've been sitting here inside the Gelato Place since 7 am this morning.

Ridiculously, I have been hoping to see Jaebum oppa here. Hoping.. Yes.. not expecting.. that's what we talked about yesterday.. to meet here for brunch. Why didn't he show up? Is it not valid anymore?

Although, obviously, I already know the answer.. given that he didn't come today, why am I still hoping that he would show up and talk to me?

"Yoo Ae eonni." Joy, the part-timer called me. She's a younger friend who I became acquinted with because aside from she works here, she is also from my brother's class. "Aren't you going to leave yet?"

"So you're kicking me out now?" I kid.

She shook her head. "Ani. But I think Jaebum oppa won't be coming."

My eyes widened in surprise. How did she know I'm waiting for him? "I'm not waiting for anyone." I lied.

"Eyyy~" she sat in front of me. "It's obvious eonnie. This is yours and Jaebum oppa's favorite place since you were young, right?"

How did she know that, too? "Huh!" I faked a chuckle. "How would you know that when you just worked here three months ago? Huh?"

She gestured 'no' with her finger. "I know. Jaebum oppa told me before. He even told me lots of things about you."

"He told you?" Act like you are not interested, Yoo Ae! "What lies did he tell you? When? He comes here alone?"

She chuckled. "Eonni. You're funny. You're really interested with the topic."

"I'M NOT!"

"Arasseoyo~" she states that but her facial expressions shows the opposite.

"Never mind. Don't tell me when. I'm not interested." I pretended to open my tab and just doodle on whatever I see.

She smiled. "Well eonnie, I won't tell you if that's what you want." And she got up.

But my hand might have it's own life that it immediately caught her wrist and made her sit down again.

"Tell me." I said. Guess my mouth has it's own life, too.

"Shall you bring me to your house later?" moving her eyebrows up and down.

Oh, Joy has a crush on my brother by the way.

"Geurae." (Okay) I agreed without thinking. "Malhae.." (Tell me)

As I was walking on the hallway, my heart skipped as I saw a familiar silhoutte from afar. I knew this would happen.

Me seeing Jaebum oppa in the corridor. What will I do?

Yesterday's conversation with Joy flashbacked on my mind.

"In your evaluation day.. he told me that this gelato place was your favorite place when you two were young. And I asked him why he came here instead of the flower shop.. and you know what's his answer?.. he said he would want to see you smile after a stressful and tiring day. How romantic!" Joy stated with much cute gestures of a teenage girl. "That's the reason why he bought some wafer dessert to give you when you finish performing. You're so lucky eonni!"

But he didn't go that day. There was not even a shadow of Im Jaebum that day.

"And today eonnie.. I know you're waiting for him coz he kept on calling yesterday about.. uhm.. I'm not supposed to tell you but.. since it got cancelled.. uhm.. he is supposed to have an event for you today. To surprise you.. but.. did you two.. fight or something?"

Was it regret? The feeling that I had when I heard it?

"Oppa!!" I uttered as he is a few steps close to me. We are still friends, right? I should act as usual. "Ya! Im Jaebum!" I even punched his arm. "Why didn't you show up yester---"

He walked passed by me.

Did not even look at me.

He stood in front of the announcement LED board like he did not hear anything.

"Wasn't she the one who Jaebum oppa sang to during their guirella concert?"

"Yes. She's that girl? Who is she?"

"Molla. Maybe she thought she's close with him already after that fanservice."

"Huh! She's a delirious fan."

"But I heard she's Yugyeom's older sister."

"And so? She's just his sister. Nothing more. She thinks like she's close with them?"

"Huh! Jaebum oppa ignored her. Serves her right."

I heard people whispering around me. Do they just have loud voices or did they say it for me to hear?

And Jaebum oppa just stood there without saying anything.

He really is..

Ignoring me.

"Who said she doesn't have the right to be close with us?"

Mark oppa suddenly appeared behind the small crowd. He spoke casually without raising his voice.

Everyone made way for him as he walked towards me like they feared him. His authority over people without even trying is something.

He looked at Jaebum oppa. Jaebum oppa also looked at him with a blank face. Mark oppa looked pissed.

"Let's go." He told me then held my wrist and dragged me away.

I looked at Jaebum oppa as we walked away from that area. He turned his back and walked to the opposite side with hands on his pockets.

And my heart felt like it was crampled...

Once again.
