THE PANDORA FOREST
EARLY EVENING

Despite the warm evening air soothing the skin on her back, a brisk chill made its way up Tarya's spine as they flew through the mountains, taking a shortcut that Neteyam had mentioned in due course.

Had it not been for the warmth of the Pandora air, one would've mistaken this chill for one of physical briskness. Yet, it was all in her head.

The loss of her mother was so fresh in her mind; it had been only days since she first heard those words breach the surface. And the remnants of those emotions and memories were now searing their way back into the front of her mind the closer they got to the old shack.

Another dealing with the Sky People was on their hands, and Tarya was being flooded with sheer panic, and rage.

It now felt as if every step they took, the Sky People took another. They were always ahead by one.

The Mag Lev raid was a success in one respect, yet the losses they sustained would say otherwise. The Sky People won on emotional grounds. And this mattered more to the Omatikaya.

What use was stealing weapons if they had lost the people who could wield them?

And just by pure coincidence, sheer, dumb luck, the children had made their way into the forest, and right into a death trap.

The Sky People were one step ahead yet again. Tarya was not dumb; for she knew the hold the humans would have over Jake and Neytiri if they captured their children.

It was this fear she could see on the parents faces. The rage of a mother who wanted her children safe, and the danger of a father who'd do what he needed to ensure their return.

Tarya knew Jake and Neytiri would give up everything to ensure their children's survival. Marali was the same.

Perhaps this was a trait she had passed on to her daughter; for the young girl would now stop at nothing to protect those she had left. Her mother and father, her family, were gone. All she had now was the friends that had taken her in, a surrogate mother and father, and the memories of her own.

It had always been in her DNA to want to protect those she cared about, those she loved. Tarya couldn't bare to experience the heavy losses she would have to endure if she could not live up to the task. Yet, life had thrown her that very curve ball; taking her mother from her, and now forcing her into the act of retrieving those she had left.

Throughout their descent to the trees below, the girl could only hold onto Mirza, gripping his reins and bond tightly. She could almost feel Neteyam's eyes on her; knowing the stress the whole ordeal was causing her.
