A while later, Amara was called to meet with Viserys. She only worried about why. Amara met with His Grace by the skull of Balerion the Black Dread, his former dragon.

As Amara entered she bowed to the man. "You wished to see me?" Viserys nodded as he walked to her. "I wish to hear your advice once more." She nodded, "What advice do you need, Your Grace." He looked up at Balerion's skull and then at the girl in front of him. "In the late hours of the night, Rhaenyra seemed to have compromised how she is perceived by the people and the court." He sighed, "I now must take the matter of her courtship into mine own hands." Amara nodded. "I need to know if you believe Laenor Velaryon is the best match for Rhaenyra. Politically." She looked into Viserys' eyes, "Might I ask if the news of her compromisation came from my father?" Viserys nodded.

Of course.

Amara chuckled to herself and shook her head, biting her tongue. She scoffed before answering, "Yes, I do believe Ser Laenor Velaryon to be the best, political, match for the Princess." Viserys nodded giving her a smile. "May I speak freely?" Viserys nodded, again. "What will you do about the wolf who preys upon your throne?" Confused Viserys shook his head, "Wolf?" She smiled bitterly, "My father." Viserys didn't think she'd ever say such things of her father.

A lot was implied in her two words. "Otto has served me loyally for years." She shook her head and pleaded with him. "He wants Aegon to be named heir. And he will stop at nothing to see it done. Including bringing about Rhaenyra's ruin. Your daughter." "I wish for unity in my kingdom. If Otto no longer serves me there will be no unity in my marriage." Amara walked to Viserys and she held his hands, noticing, once more, his lack of fingers. "How can unity be accomplished with your most trusted adviser so self-interested?" Viserys looked into Amara's eyes. It was evident she believed what she told him. It was known that Otto only cared for the throne.

With the night quickly approaching, Amara retired to her rooms. As she approached the door, Elias stopped her. "What is it?" "The Queen, my Lady." Amara nodded, "Thank you."

Amara entered to see Alicent walking around looking at the different things Amara had collected. "Mara." "Alicent." Amara walked over and started to take off her jewelry, "Thank you. You kept my secret." Alicent nodded and walked to her sister, "You love him." Amara turned to Alicent, "And he does not love me." Alicent stepped back, confusion covering her face. "What?" "I have not heard from him since last night. It seems that men tell the truth. Some, only want us for our virtue." Alicent chuckled, "You are mistaken, he was told to leave." Amara did not change her expression, "And there was no goodbye."

Something was wrong. Amara was never so compliant.

Amara sat awake in her bed writing a letter to Laena. Few candles were lit and she sat in her nightgown with a braid in her hair as she wrote. There was a knock at her door. "I'm already dressed for bed, Elise!" The door opened and she looked up to see James entering. Amara quickly got up to greet him. "I did not expect you in these late hours." She had clearly missed the look on his face. "Is it true?" He whispered. Amara furrowed her brows and cocked her head, "Is what true?" "You. Daemon." James spoke through gritted teeth.

"Is that where you were in the late hours of last night?" She shook her head, "No. Of course not. I would never." His eyes widened as he scoffed, "Really? You expect me to believe you? After all, you've said about not wanting to be with me." She walked to him, "Please. It is only a rumor, a vile and mistaken one, but a rumor nonetheless." He looked down into her eyes.

James so badly wanted to believe her. He wanted nothing more. And sometimes, if you want something bad enough you start to believe it. Amara did not have to beg much after that.

And for Amara, it was easier to manipulate him because she knew he liked her. She knew his weakness. She knew that all he wanted was her and a family they could share. Amara played off those feelings like a violin.

When James left Amara sat back in bed and ripped out the page she was writing on and started over.

Dear Laena,

I feel as though I may have made a mistake.
