Part Thirty
"I've been looking forward to today." Nana comments climbing onto the boat ahead of me. I nod in agreement, waiting to follow her upstairs. We've putting the last of the things we need for the day we're about to spend at Moon Wreck Island with the others. Anya, Austin, Harley, and Emily. I'm actually really excited for today's events to unroll already.
I can't wait to spend the day with all of them. It feels like two worlds coming together, my regular human life being nana and Emily who have a glimpse inside the merfolk world. Then there's Anya, Harley and Austin, they are the perfect combination of both of those worlds. My new world and old world merging together, the only missing link is my parents and brothers being here.
Once they know about this new world it will be complete. There will be no more hiding this secret. I fear though it will create more problems once the brief euphoria is over. The next question will be if anyone else in my family wants to complete the rebirth ritual.
"I'm here!" Emily's calls out.
I peer over the railing to find her coming down the jetty with her gear, waving up at me. "Hey." I greet, waving back at her.
"Emily's here." I tell nana as I head to the back of the boat to meet Emily.
"I can't believe today is here already, I'm going swimming with mermaids." Emily looks like a kid who's been let loose in a candy store.
I grin, nodding. "It is pretty cool." I admit. It's one of the highlights I am most looking forward to today.
"Anyone else here yet? Or am I early for once?" she asks going upstairs.
I'm about to follow her until I hear a car approaching in the distance. I look over to find a silver car pulling up near the house, Anya waving at me as she climbs out of the car.
"You're early for once." I comment, stepping onto the jetty. I watch Austin climb out of the car moving to the back of it, lifting the boot of the car open with one hand. He reaches inside for something, passing it off to Anya before grabbing another bag.
The change between the jetty and sand startles me slightly, a small fear of falling randomly surging through me. I look down to make sure I haven't taken a misstep. Once I'm in there clear I keep heading towards Austin and Anya who are walking towards me.
We reach each other where the sand turns to grass. Austin looks divine. He's simply wearing black boardshorts and a light grey t-shirt but it's working for me. There's a small smile turning his lips upwards, the corner of his mouth crinkling nicely.
His green eyes are already looking at me, completely unreadable in this moment. If it weren't for this stupid bracelet, I'd know exactly what he's thinking about, know exactly what is going on in that head of his.
His hair looks messier than ever before. I don't know whether I want to help him mess it up further or give him a demonstration of how a brush works. I'm leaning more towards the first one.
My heart is picking up pace, my body warming at the thoughts that come with the multiple different possibilities of how exactly I could mess his hair. I don't think he's ever looked so good before. I wish it were just us here, just us getting to spend the day alone.
"...I'm great, Isla, thanks for asking. How are you?"
I look away from the endless depths of those green eyes and find Anya standing next to Austin. Has she been standing there the whole time?
She chuckles, shaking her head. "This is going to be highly entertaining." She comments, patting my shoulder before walking pass me.
I look over my shoulder at her. "What is she talking about?"
