I told Pamela everything that happened. My parents, the argument, running away, getting lost, the wall, my soulmate, the woods, finding the lake, and my way back.
She looked at me with glossy eyes and pulled me into a tight hug. At this point we were sitting crisscross in front of each other.
"I'm so sorry, Brooke. You don't deserve any of this. It is my fault. I took you to the lake." She said with her head buried into my shoulder.
"No it's not. I'm the one who came and I'm the one that lost track of time and forgot. You did nothing." We stayed clung onto each other a while longer.
"I have nowhere to go." I finally say. "What am I supposed to do?"
"Stay with me. My parents don't have to know. They are gone half the time anyways. Always working." She says getting excited.
I shake my head. "I can't. This will be the first place my parents and anybody else looking for me will go. I can't get taken back to them. They don't care about me."
"Well what about Luke? He lives in an apartment in his parents basement. Something about him 'being more mature and getting ready for the real world' as his parents put it."
"I have actually considered that." I say. "Do you think he would let me though?"
"OF COURSE HE WOULD!" She shouts at me. "You are like his little sister. He loves you. And if I tell him he will have to. He will do anything for me."

"Of course you can stay here." Luke replies without hesitation after hearing the story. "I need a roommate anyways. It gets too lonely down here."
I give a sigh of relief at his answer and practically jump into his arms. He hugs me back with a tight hold, almost like I am fragile and he is trying to shield me from the bad in the world. I always feel safe in Luke's arms. It isn't in a romantic way everyone might think. It is a sibling type of way. He has always been protective of me and I would never see him in a relationship way like that.
"Well now that is taken care of." Pamela says coming over and rubbing by back in comfort. "Now how are you going to get your clothes and phone?"
Luke and I release each other and face Pamela.
"My window in my room is always unlocked. I can get in through there. I need you guys to help me though. I can go in the window and unlock the back door for you."
"Okay when do you want to go?" Pam asks.
"Well it's 4:27 so my parents don't get back from work for another 2 and a half hours so we can go now if your up for it?" I tell them both.
After exchanging glances, Luke looks at me. "Let's do it."

After getting to my house, Luke goes to the door and knocks to see if anybody is home. My parents have never seen Luke before so they wouldn't know who he is.
It's kinda weird. We've been friends for 7 years yet my parents never meet him. I guess it's a good thing now.
After knocking twice and ringing the doorbell three times, he gives us the thumbs up telling us the house is empty.
Pamela and I get out of the car and head around to the side of the house where my bedroom window is. Luke meets up with us.
My room is on the second floor so Luke had to lift me on his shoulders so I could get up. I had a balcony, so it wasn't that far up and Luke being the tower he is, was pretty helpful. I didn't weigh that much either so he was able to lift me pretty easily.
I slid the window open and crawled inside while Pam and Luke walked around to the back door.
My room was exactly how I left it when I ran out. My bed partially messy, my floors tidy. Even my textbooks and notebooks scattered on my desk where untouched.
I quickly ran down the stairs, taking a few at a time to open the French doors connecting the house to the patio.
Luke and Pam were already there and they hurried inside so we wouldn't waste anytime getting my items and leaving before my parents got back.
After packing two suitcases full of clothes and some books (I couldn't leave them, they were my favorites) we left the house. We took the stuff to Pam's car and I went back in to lock the back door and crawl back out the window. Luke was at the bottom waiting for me so I wouldn't fall.
"That was stressful." I say, breaking the silence in the car.
"You can say that again." Luke says letting out a little giggle.
"Definitely!" Pam adds.
"Thank you so much again Luke. You don't know how grateful I am. I owe you."
"No you don't Brooke. I love you. You know that. I do stuff for people I love without reward."
At that moment my eyes got glossy. It was nice having people care for me. It made me feel wanted in this messed up community.
Just then a thought flashed through my mind.
"Are you guys doing anything tomorrow?" I ask.
"No. There's school, but I need to ditch tomorrow. I'll just call in sick. I can't deal with everyone right now." Luke said with a shrug.
"Me too." Pam stated after.
"Good. There is something I need to do tomorrow. And I need your help doing it."
"Sure, Brooke. What is it?" Pam asked.
"I need to find out what the building has to do with my soulmate."
