Later that day, when the Great Ring was at its apex, the wagon crossed over a very sturdy, industrial-looking bridge.
Sam noticed that it was composed of many boxes welded together. He asked Nil if it was built by the Purifiers.
He was right. Sam felt good about himself.
The wagon had strayed away from the coast over the course of the day. By the time they reached the bridge, the shore was hours away. Instead of a pink sea, a sea of trees obscured the horizon on all sides.
Nack stopped the wagon on the other side of the bridge, and ordered Sam to wash off.
"The water's clean here," He said, "And you reek of tube goo."
To Sam's surprise, the water was clean. So clean, in fact, it ran almost clear.
He cocked his head left, and then right. In both directions, the river ran perfectly straight. So straight, that he could see the water run off into the horizon.
"What's up with this river?" He asked.
Nil said, "Oh, that? That's the Puke Chute."
"Puke Chute?" Sam whipped his head around, "Why the hell is a river called Puke Chute?"
"I don't know." Nil responded, "It's always been called that."
