MINA'S EYES WIDENED and she dropped her glare, suddenly feeling ashamed at her brash reaction.

"Sorry." She said sheepishly to Xialing, who's stony expression had softened only slightly at her. She nodded in her direction and Mina patted Shaun's shoulder, before she took a seat beside him.

"You run this place?" Shaun asked and Xialing's gaze hardened again, her arms crossed over chest seemed to stiffen.

"I own it." She replied curtly.

The door suddenly beeped and opened, revealing a grinning and distracted Katy, who was hurriedly counting a wad of money. When she noticed their eyes on her, she quickly stuffed the bills into the fanny pack on her waist.

"Where did you get all that money?" Shaun asked suspiciously and Mina shook her head, half disappointed in their friend and half amused by her antics.

"She bet against you." Mina revealed and Shaun whined pitifully. Mina bit back a laugh as Katy gave him a wide, cheesy grin and walked to sit beside them.

"Only a little." She admitted, sitting down as she looked over at Shaun's sister. "Hi, Xialing. I'm Katy. You're, like, such a badass. Everything that you do is, like, so cool. That was really cool."

Xialing smiled at her, glancing at Katy's bright yellow pants and the fanny pack she was using as a mock belt. "I like your pants."

"Thank you. Thanks. Yeah." Katy trailed off.

Xialing dropped her smile as she looked back at her brother, her expression almost blank aside from the burning resentment in her eyes. "What do you want?"

"The Ten Rings ambushed us in San Francisco-" Shaun began but Xialing cut him short.

"I saw the video."

"They took my pendant." Shaun rushed over his sister, voice anxious but firm. "They're gonna come for yours next. I don't know what he wants with them, but we both know it can't be good."

Xialing stared him for a moment, her face set as she considered his words. She turned her dark eyes to Mina, her gaze intense.

"You know what he said to me when he left?" She asked rhetorically. '"I'll be back in three days." And after three days, I went to our mom's shrine and waited. Three days turned into a week, a week turned to a month, and a month turned to six years."

Mina turned to look at Shaun, who was staring down at his hands in guilt. Thoughts raced through her mind, wondering how many more things she would find about this secret past he kept saying he would explain.

"That's how long it took me to realize I didn't need him any more. I built this place on my own." Xialing continued, her voice firm but anger shook it slightly. "I didn't need you then, and I don't need you now."
