Narcissa POV:

Y/n appeared to be feeling much better but still needed to rest. So, after lunch while she was taking a nap I ventured downstairs to find Chance and see what kind of job I would be doing. I had left a little note on the bedside table in case y/n woke up and began looking for me, reassuring her I wasn't far away should she need anything.

I found the man in question wiping down the bar after the lunch rush, the surrounding tables pretty vacant apart from a couple of drunken men half asleep in a puddle of their own drool. The dinner rush would happen in a few hours time so I figured it would be a good time to learn the ropes of whatever he had me doing.

"Hey Chance." I greeted, sitting down at the bar with a friendly smile.

"Hello there Narcissa. How's y/n faring?"

"She's doing better now that she's got the medicine in her system. She's sleeping right now so I thought I'd pop down here and discuss this job opportunity of yours."

"Yeah absolutely. So, you'd essentially be doing what I do. Taking orders, mixing drinks, and keeping everything back behind here tidy." The man explained as he motioned towards the cases of liquor lining the shelves behind him.

"Most of the people here are pretty friendly but if any of these drunkards give you a problem you let me know you hear?" I nodded as he gave me a stern look, making sure I knew he was serious about that.

"Good. Now get back here and I'll show you how to serve the booze and send orders back to the kitchen for cook to take care of."

Y/N POV:

I had fallen asleep just after lunch, waking again late into the afternoon. I was still utterly exhausted and was surprised to find the room silent and vacant of it's other occupant.

My eyes searched around wondering where she could have gone when they landed on a small piece of parchment paper on the table beside me. Taking it and reading over it I released a satisfied sigh, reassured that my companion hadn't been carted off by kidnappers while I slept.

There wasn't much to do up here and I didn't really want to go back to sleep, preferring to be able to sleep through the night later on. So, I stiffly pulled my aching body out of bed, feeling every muscle in my being protesting against the movement.

I slowly made my way into the lavatory and took a look in the crusty little mirror, observing the lack of greenish veins on the surface of my skin. The potion appeared to be doing its job and working its way through my body, fighting off the infection that has threatened to end my life just a short time ago.

I filled the basin with enough warm water to cover my body as I sank into it, relishing in the heat as my muscles relaxed in the much needed bath. It was getting cold quickly this year and the inn provided little heat in the old rooms. We needed to make a bit of money for some warmer clothes and fast.

Hopefully within a day or two I would be well enough to help provide for us and could return to the apothecary to speak to the gruff potion's master about returning the favor he did for me.

Finishing up my bath I slowly and carefully shimmied back into my clothing, already tired from just that small amount of effort. I huffed in annoyance at my inability to do much of anything, hoping the medicine would sort me out quickly.

I made my way downstairs to the bar, taking a seat and quirking an eyebrow at the sight that greeted me. I couldn't help the quiet chuckle I let out as I watched the former princess scrub down the sticky bar with an old rag, something about the way she held herself giving away the fact that she had never had a real job in her life.
