It had been a few days now and things had calmed down significantly, Narcissa and I both falling into a routine of work, dinner at the inn, and retiring to our room for the night in order to get ready for the next day. Saturday morning had rolled around yet again and we both had the entire weekend off this week, planning to take a trip into the village for much needed supplies.
The two of us were in desperate need of some new clothes and had managed to make enough for some cheaper items. Next week we would have my paycheck on top of Narcissa's and would be able to start preparing to either find somewhere more suitable to live or move on from this village altogether.
I had begun to quite like this place and the news of my biological father not being who I initially thought he was provided some difficulty in that decision. It was something I definitely needed to speak with Narcissa about, in due time that is.
For now, I quietly got myself ready for the day as I waited on my companion to wake, sitting at the foot of the bed as I pulled my hair up to get it out of the way. I laced up my old, worn boots, subconsciously pressing at the thin sole of one with my big toe and feeling it come unglued just a little bit more.
With winter on its way a good pair of boots and a thick pair of socks was high on my list of things to buy today. The rest of our garments may be dirty and thin but they were in far better shape that our footwear. They would do until next week.
"Morning." I heard from behind me, a small smile toying at my lips at the sound of her sleepy morning voice.
"Morning." I purred back, turning to meet the other girl's sleepy gaze as she rubbed at chocolate brown eyes, the meager amount of sunlight able to penetrate the dirty windows falling over her face and turning rich brown irises into pools of golden honey.
"What time is it?"
"Just before 10 I believe. I heard the early morning breakfast rush come through before I actually got up, and now it seems like the later, weekend, breakfast rush is just starting to kick up."
"Ugh I slept in." I chuckled as Narcissa buried her face in her pillow, voice muffled as she tried to convince herself to get out of the warm bed.
"It's Saturday you deserve to sleep in."
"You didn't."
"I tried, just couldn't sleep any longer." The other girl ungracefully rolled herself out of the bed, feet hitting the cold floor with a little 'slap' as the blankets went with her.
"Welp, I'm up." Narcissa slurred, rubbing at her face as she padded quietly over to the bathing chamber to take care of her morning duties.
"Perhaps we can go somewhere else for breakfast?" She called from behind a cracked door. "I'm a bit tired of the same thing everyday plus there's far too many people down there right now."
I sighed softly, hearing the airy lilt in her voice that told me everything I needed to know. Narcissa was still a bit unnerved by the incident in the bar last week and I couldn't blame her for wanting to be anywhere else, especially during the busy hours of the day.
"Of course we can." I replied. "There's a little private bakery close to the apothecary I've been wanting to try if that interests you. It's run by a kind older lady that always greets me as I go by on my way to work."
"Sounds perfect."
We were out the door of the inn just after 10, sauntering down the street side by side with our arms linked together. The air was chilly this morning and it was becoming increasingly more common, Winter creeping ever closer as the days grew shorter and the Earth prepared for the cold, dark months ahead.
