Being as it was a Sunday, and neither Narcissa or I were working, we woke up rather late in the morning. As I cracked my eyes open the sunlight was already streaming as brightly as it could through the grimy little window, barely lighting up the room but portraying how late in the day it already was nonetheless.
I inhaled deeply, releasing a yawn as I rolled onto my back with one arm slung over my head. My companion was still fast asleep beside me and I took a moment to simply admire her.
The way the other girl's two toned hair framed her face perfectly even in slumber, the way the tiniest hint of a smile graced the corners her lips, a perfectly peaceful expression on her face. As I observed her my mind wandered back to the night before and the kiss we had shared.
It had been unavoidable since the day we officially met at that ball so many moons ago, yet I still couldn't shake the excitement and pride I felt at having kissed the princess. I had never understood the other girls in the village speaking of butterfly's in their stomachs or becoming giggly and shy around a man, however, I finally understood. The mere thought of occupying the same space as the Black princess was enough to have me fighting a grin tugging at the corners of my lips. I officially had a crush on Narcissa Black.
After our minute intimate moment nothing much else had happened last night. We had spent another hour or so wandering about the village and observing the festivities before returning to the inn and promptly falling asleep. It had been a long week for both of us and we were exhausted, ready for a day off before it began again tomorrow.
I still had to venture down to the apothecary at some point today, however, the aloof potion's master hadn't specified a time frame so I would go on my own time and hope he was around.
Eventually I managed to unceremoniously haul myself out of the warm bed, stretching my muscles and running a hand through tangled locks of hair. The view may not be pleasant but the air was, and so I managed to crack open the window just a bit, the rotting wood protesting under the strain but finally adhering to my wishes.
My ears detected movement from behind me, turning to see Narcissa stretching as she was bathed in the small stream of sunlight like some picturesque painting of a Greek Goddess. I grinned crookedly as she opened her eyes, the light giving them the appearance of an endless pool of honey, one which I would love to fall into one day.
"Morning." I drawled, the other girl rubbing her eyes sleepily as she squinted against the sun, unaware of how I was committing the scene to memory. The idea of waking up to this every morning was certainly one I could get used to.
"Morning." Narcissa murmured, voice thick with sleep as she tried to wake up.
"You know you're late for work." I teased, taking this opportunity to have some fun.
"It's Sunday." She retorted, throwing an arm over her eyes to shield them from the bright light.
"It's Monday remember?"
"No it isn't." She didn't sound too sure of herself as she peered at me around her arm, brain still fuzzy with sleep as she tried to think.
"Go ask Chance if you don't believe me."
"Shit." Narcissa began to rise quickly, panicked and trying to get ready for the day. I snorted as she struggled to free herself from the blankets tangled around her legs, looking for the rest of her clothing.
My laughing caught her attention, her movements stilling as her eyes narrowed. "It's Sunday isn't it?" The princess asked with annoyance, relaxing again.
All I could do was nod as I laughed out loud, a strangled sound escaping my throat as a pillow was chucked at my face. I threw it back at her as she fell flat against the bed again, sighing in contempt as she resigned herself to starting the day sooner, and far more awake, than she had anticipated.
