Vera POV:
After taking over the rest of the shifts for the night, since Alex had to take over while I went to pick up Sofia from school, it was a pretty slow day for Larry's Bar. Not that I'm complaining about that, less people I have to deal with.
I turned on the T.V down here at the Bar and switched it to the news channel, to see what new crime was going on this time. I turned the volume up to hear it a bit better and for the other customers that were still here.
Turns out that The Joker had decided to take some people hostage and threatened to kill them all unless the Major turned over Gotham City to him. He was apparently at an abandoned warehouse just off of Kings avenue. A little too close for comfort if you ask me.
I never understood why Batman didn't just kill him. From what I've been able to tell this isn't the first time something like this has happened. Batman and his sidekicks fight him, put him in jail, Joker escapes, and then it repeats.
In fact a lot of heroes in this universe don't like the idea of killing the people who enjoy terrorizing their cities. Some of the people in the hero's fight I can see why they don't kill them. Some of them are capable of change, some were brought into the fighting because they were either forced into it or born into it and had no other choice, or there are some like Lex Luther who if you did kill would cause too many repercussions on the hero's part.
The hero's in this universe also hide their identities. We only had a few who did that in our world. Most of the heroes in our universe were already well known people. Also this universe didn't have that high of an opinion of hero's here either.
Since me and the others got here we've seen a lot of protests saying how the government should get rid of these heroes. We had people like that in our universe but it was never that bad, and most of it was because of misunderstandings that the media had made about the Avengers and other heroes.
When we got here Stark had thought of hacking into the government's database to get all the info we could on the hero's here so we could build our own opinion of them. She was even going to get into the Justice League database, so that we could know who they are in case they ever proved a threat to us. But I had quickly shut that idea down as good as that info would have been for us, I would rather have nothing traced back to us, no matter how good Stark is with technology.
I continued to watch the news to see that Batman, Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin, and Robin had all arrived to take care of the Joker. Once again they defeat the Joker, save the hostages, and put Joker back into Arkham.
Do they not realize that he'll just escape again and cause even more trouble for the city. Killing him would just save everybody the trouble of having anyone else get hurt. I looked back at the news to see that during their fight with the joker that had caused two buildings to collapse. Another reason why I'm not very fond of this universe's heroes. They cause more destruction than the villains do.
Another thing different about this universe's heroes is that they fight off all kinds of criminals. The Avengers usually just dealt with the bigger threats, Aliens, gods, hydra, enhanced individuals, mutants, killer robots, and so on. Sometimes they'll help out with bank robbers and such but mostly just left it up for the law enforcement to deal with it.
It was our way of keeping people's faith in them and not relying on us to do everything for them.
Stark relief foundations always made sure that after any fight we had that anything that was destroyed during the fight was paid for and taken care of by Stark. One of the other reasons for hiding our identities was futile. People would have easily found out who we were. It also doesn't help that Steve and Natasha had found out about how Hydra had infiltrated SHIELD, and released all the information to the public.
