It was midnight, but I woke up a few minutes ago. The streetlights were flickering and the TV screen was far too bright for twelve o'clock at night. It's always been difficult for me to sleep, I often wake up for seemingly no reason, except fear.

It might be fear when I hear my dad come home drunk, or my mom screaming. It could also be a nightmare. This time it was a nightmare, my parents were currently across the country. I got up to drink water, when I saw him. I had forgotten he was staying over. He was sleeping on the couch with his blanket falling off. I went to fix it, and noticed he was shivering. As I went to fix it, he suddenly woke up.

He was terrified, he started crying and jumped up from the couch. It was like he had been falling, falling and falling, until he had hit rock bottom and now he felt the pain. He sat down slowly, shivering. I've never been good at handling emotions, so I gave him my water and went to get myself some new water.

I felt a pull, and suddenly he was hugging me. It was warm, unlike my own. I didn't know what to do, so I just hugged him back. I was practically sitting on him, so I shifted to a different spot, yet he pulled me back anyways. We sat and hugged for what seemed like hours, until he was no longer crying. He was asleep now. I tried to get up, but failed miserably. I couldn't move anymore, we were laying down and he had his arms around me. It felt safe, and it was warm and new. "Just until I wake up again, then I'll move," were my thoughts. I woke up to the sun shining.

  We never spoke about it.
