I apologize in advance for all grammar mistakes and miss punctuation plus spelling errors, but please keep in mind that this is a story from around 1848 so these people had a different slang/ way of saying things. I would also like to say that I love writing but I do have a bad habit of forgetting my story's and getting bored. I may or may not post once a week so please don't be angry for not updating, the more comments/ suggestions really help me to keep this story alive, however if no one is reading this I will likely lose interest in it. I hope you all enjoy, and please please no criticism like I said I am no author or publisher, however if you have any suggestions I am open to them.

Most people by now have fled to California but father says that with his condition of a constant cold that he likely would not make the travel there. Without grandma to cook we have had to ask Aunt Lina if she could live with us and help cook and clean. Father says that I had best Ricken to learn from Aunt Linda, someday I will be doing the same thing for my husband and kids.

You see the only problem with that is, I don't want to get married, because than I couldn't travel and have amazing adventures in the woods. I would be stuck inside taken care of a wretched baby all day. My only wish is to be free forever, but I have to do what father says, or I'll be in big trouble.

Even though it was not how I wanted to spend my day, I found myself following around as Aunt talked about how to cook breakfast and told me to observe. She also had me watch her scrub half of the table and had me do the other half. I should have made a mess of that because now I have to clean the table before I can have breakfast on it.

Father rushes to the patio where aunt is teaching me how to crochet, by far the worst part yet I would be staring outside longing to go and get my overalls dirty and rough around in the dirt so much that even father thinks I should have an early bath.

He burst through the door almost completely out of air, aunt rushes over to make sure that he is breathing ok. "She-she's taken a turn." "We need to find a daily doctor to take care of her." "But we ain't got the money to afford a daily doctor," Aunt exclaims.

"Thats why Ava and I are moving to California for a few days."

"No, we can't move!" I scream. "I aint wanna agree with her but she has a point, what if you die on the way there. Ava will grow up with no parents!"

Aunt Linda has a very concerned look on her face, but it does not convince father.

"That won't come to be because I will make it, besides I swear, if I die, she'll find a way to get back here, and you'll take care of the little runt."

"You know I am right here? I can hear every word you sayin' about me!" I yell, while father just scowls at me as he lifts himself up from aunt, but he just nods instead of showing me respect at least that's what he calls it.

"We leave tomorrow mornin', got it?" Father says, but I just nod, even though I am screaming inside. He leaves me outside with aunt, she just stands there and stares inside of the house. She licks her lips and turns toward me. "Well then, we had best pack your things."

I nod and turn at our grazing fields, fully knowing that I might never see its spiky grass, the dead leaves on the ground that bring the crisp breeze to autumn.

"I will try to keep your grandmother on good conditions, but you have to take care of your father, he did not want me to tell you this cause he didn't want to worry you, but-" I interrupted her cause she was trying to make it sound like my paw actually cared, no way. " Ok, first off, whatever it is he aint care about what I felt like, he just aint want to deal with my tears." "Huh- you know your father to well, but he does care. Your father has, ... your... your grandmother is not the only one that has gotten worse. If you have not noticed by now, your father is extra tired. Well, its cause I have been needin to wake him up at night cause he'd starta chockin in his sleep. I don't think that your father will make it back, so I ask you to make his last few days' worth it and help him to last longer if he gets worse, take him back here. Do you understand?"
