(Just pretend it's either the aunt or the mother in the picture as a kid)

Aunt hoisted the buckets up and attempted to hand me one, but her arm sagged a little. It was truly disappointing how puny and weak my aunt had gotten over the years. Like my mother, she had grown up on a small farm, about a mile from the border of Mexico.

They were often visited by immigrants trying to make their way from San Antonio. According to mama they had seen several different family's and had heard many stories of survival. While had first-hand witnessed the tears of mothers who's sons, daughters, and husbands had not been as fortunate in making it so far.

Her and Lina had it rough, rougher than most. Since their father had died at a young age they were responsible for almost everything, as their mother had a new born child to take care of. Plus cooking and cleanin had to be done. She did manage to feed the chickens though.

They had to do almost everything. Aunt Linda would get up at the crack of dawn. She'd have to go out just as the sky started shifting to shades of pink and oranje. She'd get to walk around while chopping wood and witness the beautiful display of colors. She'd get back as the sky was turning blue and set up the fire for the food.

As mother would often begin to cook before the newborn child awoke. Aunt would go out and milk the cows, they had two. They named the two girls, Bessy and ".......". They didn't get so lucky as they had two girls so they could not breed for more cows.

After she was done she would come in and pour the milk from the old, rusty, and beat up buckets, into plastic containers to be sold. Then she would go out and water the crops if it had not rained yet.

Before long it would be mid-day and she would sit down with her mom and have lunch that their mother had cooked for them. After that she would go into town and buy anything they needed, or she would just sit on the bench and watch the birds.

Then she would come back before dinner to feed the cat and check on the crops. Once dinner was ready her sister, my mother, would come to eat. Once they were done my mother would leave again and would not return till dark.

Over all my aunt was busy but not overly stressed. My mother however, was a different story, she was always busy and had a lot of stress on her hands. She was the eldest sibling, so the weight of the family mostly depended on her. As she was the one that had to take the fatherly role. Despite only being roughly 13 years old.

She would wake up before the sun had even peeled at the sky and would grab an apple that she would eat on the way to town. She would stop by the store that she worked at and begin cleaning. She had matured early, so she was able to fool her boss into believing she was 16. Her boss had poor eye sight too, so could mostly only rely on her height and the tone of her voice.

She worked until near lunch then she would go out and buy some food, before moving on to the factory in which she worked at until dinner. Then she would come home for dinner before leaving to shine shoes for some extra pocket money. Between all of her different jobs she managed to keep the farm and the house for a few years.

However as there money began to dwindle, aunt had to get a job of selling papers. While mother would sew as the 3 year old played with the cat and occasionally joined mother in feeding the chickens.

After mother reached the age of 18 her own mother began to pester her about marriage. She did not care until she became 19 and her sister 16. Then her sister, my aunt, got married!!! Even their mother thought that she was a little young, but when she found out it was a rich man, she could not tell her to divorce. He helpt them keep th house, but within two years desided to sell it.

Mother married just before the house was being sold off. She took the cat with her. Which sadly past away a few years ago when I was 3. The child was only 6 when her mother and her had to move in with Alina where they past away of smallpox. The rich man fell out of love with my aunt but gave her a dissent sized house to live in after leaving her.

However she was not able to keep the house for long, as she was relying on the men that she would often date. My mother would bug her about it. She would complain about how she had a "man of the month", my aunt dated so much that she had a new boyfriend almost every month.

Which stoped once she moved in with us. She had to move in, in order to take care of grandma.

And now here we are, she's so fragile and weak after so many years of stealing money from boyfriends, so she'd never have to go back to livin on a farm.

I for one would love to live on a farm away from her. Where I'd have to go out and check on the animals take care of crops. Might not sound like fantasy land, but to a little girl such as myself who can only dream of being free in nature instead of being cooped up in a house all day. It would truly be an adventure.

At least that's how I see it. Dad ain't think it's the best life for us, and aunt would run back to her old life of stealing from boyfriends rather than move back on a farm.
