Kalea 'Ruth' Kingston
New York City, New York

"Madea never fails to kill me." Kalea had a wide grin as she helped Skylar wash the dishes, they'd just finished the movie and it was dark outside. She'd decided to help Skylar tidy up before she headed home since she'd created half of the mess.

"Girl, my granny was just like Madea." Skylar said with a small chuckle, she often thought of her grandma. "May her soul rest in peace."

"I really enjoyed it." Kalea told Skylar with a genuine smile, "I grew up as an only child so I often had to entertain myself, it was nice having someone to talk to while watching the movie."

Skylar's grin grew wider before she pulled Kalea into a tight hug then getting back to the dishes. It was clear as day that Kalea was much more reserved that most people but Skylar didn't mind since she was extroverted enough for the both of them.

"Don't worry about it. If you ever wanna watch a movie, call me." Skylar said, "I'm nearly done with the dishes, if you don't mind, can you call Sky and tell her to bring her own dishes so that I can just finish everything up?"

Kalea nodded before walking through the apartment, she found a door which was shut before she knocked. Once a voice inside said 'Come in', Kalea meekly peeked her head through the crack of the door. Her eyes couldn't help but trail through the dimly lit room.

There were painting everywhere, from the walls, to the top of tables and some drawers were ajar with painting or art material in there. Her bedsheets were a pitch black while her only source of light was her bedside lava lamp which kept the room a dim shade of orange.

Sky was sprawled across the bed, reading through a book on her iPad. If Kalea wasn't wrong, that looked a lot like the Bible.

"Hey, I just came by because Skylar says she's doing the dishes and if you have any dishes, I'll take them for you." Her voice was soft and low while 'Killing Me Softly' played in the background but it was as quiet as a whisper.

Sky sat up, she was simply wearing a black sports bra with some baggy basketball shorts that went down to her lower knees. Her tattoos coated her whole body, some were coloured, some weren't whilst her curly, blonde hair was let loose like a mane. It covered most of her face but Kalea could still feel Sky's gaze shift from the iPad to her face.

Realising that Sky wasn't ever going to respond, Kalea spotted some plates and quickly grabbed them and just as she was about to leave the room, Sky shot up and shut the door from behind her.

Kalea sighed before looking behind her to see Sky, she pulled back her arm and stared at her.

"Are you trying to get close to my sister to approach me?" Sky asked, making Kalea look at her in confusion. She simply stared at the taller girl with a blank face.

"No, Sky. I'm here because I actually like your sister's company." Kalea replied, her eyes were still blank and lacked any type of emotion. The girl didn't even seem angry, despite Sky disrespecting her.

"So what? That kiss made you sink deeper into denial then?" Sky continued, her face was slightly judgmental. She looked annoyed at Kalea, what Kalea couldn't figure out was why the hell was she so annoyed?

"Denial about what?" Kalea asked curtly.

Sky chuckled before reaching over at the door, her arm brushing over Kalea's waist before pulling the door open. She ushered for Kalea to leave before she slumped back into her bed, a small smirk on her face.

Kalea blankly glanced down at her before turning around and leaving, shutting the door gently behind her.

"Thanks girl." Skylar replied, grabbing the plates and beginning to wash them. Kalea watched her absentminded as she thought of Sky.

Gosh, how could the two women be twins? One was so humble while the other was ridiculously arrogant. Sky was very attractive in Kalea's eyes but she seemed to lack human decency, there was a coldness about her. Although she couldn't pinpoint what it was, Sky seemed to be icy and Kalea didn't like it. Not to mention that the two women had kissed.

Whether or not Kalea was into women was a whole different story, but to find out through a woman who ran through women like she ran through her clothes would be something she'd refuse to experience.

"Kalea?" Skylar asked, she'd already finished the dishes and was just staring at Kalea.

"Huh?"

"I was asking for your number or social media?" Skylar said, which made Kalea quickly grab her phone, open up instagram and show Skylar her username.

"Sorry, I must be tired from last night." She said to Skylar who was sending her a follow request before handing Kalea her phone back.

"I'm gonna head home before it gets late, is that okay?" Kalea asked as she grabbed her small purse and slipped her coat on.

"I'll see you when we next have plans." Skylar said with a smile, reaching over to open the door for her before waving Kalea away.

"Hello, daddy." Kalea answered the call from her father. She'd been avoiding his calls for as long as she could but she'd eventually ran out of excuses.

"The Church misses you so much, Ruth." He said with a chuckle, meaning that Kalea had to fake a chuckle too.

"I miss the Church too." She lied, walking towards her office. It was currently the next day, she was on her way to work and her father had caught her off guard by calling her ridiculously early in the morning.

"You don't even need a job, you could just work in the church until you get married." He started, this was something he'd said to her since she was a child.

At one point, Kalea had believed that too until she realised that he'd caged her up and by working at the Church, that would be handing her father the keys to her life. God knew Kalea's heart, God knew that she loved him more than anyone but that he'd hurt her before anyone else could even do any damage. And because of that damage, Kalea genuinely believed that no one could hurt her.

Her father had damaged her beyond repair.

"I've got a student right now, dad. I'll call you soon." Kalea lied, hanging up before her father could say anything else.

As she unlocked her office, she felt tears well up in her eyes but she wouldn't dare let them roll down. She shut the door before sitting down on her desk and spreading out all the books that she'd still been studying.

Checking on the university website to see if any student had booked an appointment with her, Kalea's jaw dropped to see that a Sky Davis had booked an appointment. She definitely didn't know Kalea was the Assistant Professor because they only used last names but she was in for a shock. Glancing at the clock, Kaela realised that Sky would be here in the next 30 minutes.

Kalea sighed. She just couldn't seem to escape this girl.

Don't hurt yourselves and expect Sky to be anything like Naire :)
