Chapter Twelve;
HiringSkylar Davis
New York City, New YorkA few days had passed since the day that Kalea had helped out at Urban Dream, which was the name of Skylar's Café. Many people had told her that it sounded nothing like a café, yet people were packed inside regardless. She'd always loved coffee, her mother would drink it all the time and so did her father. To the point where they each had their own coffee machines.
It was one of the few things that made sense about her parents.
Sighing, Skylar pulled her knees to her chest as she tried to scroll through the online applications. She'd been looking for someone to work at the café but New York was a scary place. People were thieves, liars, illegal and so on, she'd just started this business and wanted it to last so she was meticulous in everything.
"You're still struggling?" Sky asked as she sat down at the seat across from Skylar.
Skylar glanced at her sister, who was younger by 9 minutes. She shook her head before staring back at her laptop, there was just no progress but she needed the help as soon as possible. Training someone to make everything right would be one thing in itself, Skylar would never trust anyone with the baking though.
"I'll think it all through while I'm working today." Skylar finally spoke up, looking through the window to see that it was still dark.
She grabbed her phone to see that it was officially 4am, she had better start baking everything they would be selling today. Shutting her laptop, Skylar stood up and hurried downstairs which was where the café was and began to bake.
From croissants, to cakes and so on. She baked everything fresh. Luckily, most things would sell out and if they didn't, she could always take them to a nearby homeless shelter and so on. Skylar didn't count it as a loss, God knows people went through worse.

"Thank you for coming." She said with a smile, she watched as the mother and daughter left the café before she released a deep sigh.
It was almost past rush hour, she glanced at her watch to see that it was 6:30pm. Of course most people didn't want coffee at night but around this time would be customers who were looking to soothe their sweet tooth.
She grabbed disinfectant spray and a cloth before walking through the tables and wiping them clean, she'd them proceed to quickly sweep and mop the area before the second wave of customers came by.
Her eyes trailed outside to see that there was a downpour, the clouds were dark and heavy as the traffic stayed as packed as ever. She checked all her plants in the store to make sure all of them felt hydrated and well before moving to sit at the back.
Just before she disappeared into the back area, the door jingled and she turned to see a young woman walk through the doors. Her hair was a blonde that threatened to be a white shade as she stumbled into the shop and walked towards the counter. She was soaked from the rain, her hair was stuck to her face, her mascara running down her cheeks as black residue surrounded her soft blue eyes. Her lips shivered as she caught Skylar's attention.
"Are you okay?" Skylar exclaimed, hurrying over and glancing over the counter to see the trail of water she'd brought it. Every piece of clothing was dripping.
"Can I have hot cocoa, please? I'm freezing." The girl pleaded, her voice was low and quiet as Skylar watched her with widened eyes.
"Stay here." Skylar instructed before she hurried to the backrooms to grab a towel, a cup of hot cocoa and some sweats that she'd kept for herself.
She found the girl sitting at the corner with her head resting on the table, her lips were slightly turning pale. Skylar coated her with the towel before she began to rub it all around her, wiping the water from her.
"Drink this while you dry up." She continued, still wiping the girl's hair and clothes to the best extent she could. "After that, change your clothes in the toilets."
The girl nodded, taking a quick sip before she grabbed the clothes and walked towards the toilets. Skylar sighed, glancing at the bag she'd been carrying. It was soaked as well. She waited patiently before the girl eventually walked out of the bathroom in baggy, black sweats with a bundle of wet clothes in her hands.
"You'll feel better if you keep drinking this. We have to raise your temperature." Skylar said, gently pushing the hot cocoa to the girl with an unreadable expression before watching the girl drink.
After finishing the hot cocoa, the girl sat quietly and watched as Skylar absentmindedly mopped the shop, trying to get rid of all the water she'd brought in. She could feel the girl walk up to her and stopped mopping to look at her.
It seemed like the pale stranger was a good 4 inches taller than Skylar, most likely being 5'10 or 5'11. Her eyes simply froze onto Skylar before she spoke.
"I haven't got any money on me. I'll be back to pay you back, how much was it?" Her voice felt a lot more lively. It was still quite low-toned but at least she didn't sound half-dead.
"You wanna repay me?" Skylar asked with a raised brow, "You looking for a job, by any chance?"

Skylar slumped onto her bed with a content sigh. She'd managed to get an employee, except she knew nothing about her but at least she'd ticked one thing off her list.
She could go to sleep and worry about it tomorrow. Hayden would be starting in two days, Skylar didn't feel excited about the training part though.
Rolling over, she wondered how a young girl carrying a Louis Vuitton purse ended up with no money and tattered shoes. Hayden's eyes were a soft blue but they were harsh and menacing. She was like a stray dog, even though she accepted the help, it was as a last resort.
Skylar didn't know what she was getting herself into but that was a problem for tomorrow's Skylar.
