When Sophie got home she begged her parents to go to Malfoy manor with them. It took a bit of convincing on her mother's part. She wanted to keep her daughter away from the Dark Lord until she had finished school, but her father was eager for her to become a death eater then.
Sophie had no intention of becoming a death eater, she just wanted to talk to Draco and was happy that her parents finally agreed to let her tag along.
Sophie had been to Malfoy Manor a couple times before that day, but she hardly remembered it, so she was surprised when she saw how large the manor was. She figured it was somewhat bigger than her house but not almost twice the size. It was no wonder Voldemort had chosen Malfoy Manor as basically death eaters headquarters.
Narcissa Malfoy greeted the Selwyns as they arrived and showed Sophie to Draco.
"He hasn't talked much recently, but when he does it's asking about you, you know. I hope you two end up staying together. You're good for him."
This made Sophie smile, but this feeling was quickly washed away when she saw Draco. He looked rough and unwell, like he hadn't slept in weeks, but it had been less than a week since she had seen him last. His face however lit up when he saw her.
"You're here, finally."
"I am, you wanted to talk."
"I can't come back next year. He wants me here. He has Snape already there. I'll write every day Sophie, I will, but I can't go back to Hogwarts," Draco sighed.
"I- it's okay," Sophie said, hugging Draco, but it wasn't.
That summer she barely saw anyone, again staying at her house most of the time. It was pointless most days to go to Malfoy Manor because she really wouldn't be able to see Draco. He'd be in death eater meetings and her parents would only stay for those before coming home. There were of course the occasional days that they let her come along and stayed for a while longer so she could see Draco. Her parents were happy she was in a relationship with him as he was pureblood and shared similar values - at least they thought.
Soon, the air started to cool and Sophie knew that that meant school. The day she was headed to the Hogwarts Express felt very gloomy and cold. Platform 9 ¾ was practically half full. Most parents weren't letting their children go back, Draco and the Golden Trio being among those missing.
The train was about to take off and Sophie was worried she'd be completely alone. She had already walked through the train looking for signs of Emory, Theo, Blaise, or even Crabbe or Goyle, but nobody was there. Finally, five minutes after taking off, Emory entered the compartment Sophie was sitting in with Theo. She was elated to know that she wouldn't be alone this year, even if she was missing Draco.
"Oi, where's Draco?" Theo asked before Emory stopped hard on his foot, "right, forgot, sorry Sophie."
The train ride was quiet most of the way, but it was a good silence. Once Theo fell asleep in Emory's lap they started talking.
"Are you going to be okay Soph?"
"I hope so, I'm mostly worried about him."
"I don't know what I'd do if this one ended up stuck like that, his parents are pressuring him though you know?"
"Yeah I saw them at the manor a couple times," Sophie replied.
"You've been to the meetings?!" Emory exclaimed, shocked.
"Well, no, but I've been on the other side of the manor while they happen."
Soon enough they were at Hogwarts. The sorting ceremony was a lot shorter than usual and as soon as it was over Sophie grabbed some food and left for her dorm, not being able to be in the great hall or common room without Draco. Even when they had hardly spoken to each other, he was always there.
