(A/N: Was this really the fourth chapter I posted within two days? Yes. Yes it is. I told y'all I was trying to get my shit together. Bet it won't last long tho lmao.)

I had one problem. I was running very low on food. Why now? Everything had been going so perfectly until I woke up and checked my canned food stash. Two cans. One of peaches, the other tuna. Canned tuna is the absolute worst! Don't even get me started on the smell! But... These days, food was good and you truly can't afford to let anything be uneaten or go to waste.

It's been about two years since the virus broke out. It spread like a vicious wildfire and now only 2% of the population is actually 'alive' - if that's what you wish to call us. Locking ourselves away with nothing to do but sleep, eat, drink and whatever else we can. Is it really living? I don't consider it living.

Well, anyway. The virus caused a lot of havoc. People freaked out, panicked as the human does. But due to the panic the virus caused, the panicking people themselves only made it worse. They reacted in ways one shouldn't. These panicked people were more likely to have died first. People caught the virus and turned. Turned into these...monsters. These flesh eating monsters. The walking dead called them walkers. Others, infected, the sick, biters, cannibals. But really, they were zombies. Yes. This isn't some movie or story. There was no use calling them all these other names. Calling them something that simply meant they were still human. That they were just sick. Because that wasn't the case and the case were that they were simply zombies.

I unlocked my padlocked door, listening for any sound or rustling outside before I decided to actually open the door itself up. I now peered out from the cabin I resided in. It was practically a broken down little wooden shack. But I took without second thoughts due to the outside simply being a run down farm. Now, the garden was dried up when I arrived, still is now. I'd rather not waste precious things such as water on them as well. There'd be no use in doing so anyway. As for the animals that were once on the farm... Dead. Deceased like many humans. Either eaten by the zombies themselves, or died of dehydration with no human to provide them water. Yeah, not only humans were killed by the dead, but any animals they could catch as well. Fortunately, these animals never came back as the walking dead themselves. No doubt I'd be alive if that had been the case. As for the animals that do in fact get away from the zombies, if bitten, the virus will instead kill them within a matter of hours.

Anyway, the trip itself into town was quiet. Thankfully. A few rustling from the bushes along the road. But nothing more to make me think it were anything other than an animal. I managed to find an old pack sometime up the road. It was covered in blood, a shovel nearby that also had blood along it. Another poor soul lost to the world. But, that also meant that I now needed to watch out for that now dead person.

Glancing from side to side, even checking over my shoulder as I knelt down to the pack. Opening it up, I peered inside and rustled about through it. Nothing useful to myself. Maybe nothing useful but a still working lighter, a few batteries and an out of date muesli bar. Geez... Must be OLD if it's out of date. But as said before, you can't afford to let any sort of food go to waste. Besides. There were just worse things I could be eating. Dog, cat, other animal food. Maybe even uncooked animals. I'd take anything other than those. I've even come to love eating the foods you'd never see me eating a few years ago.

A loud clanging sound brought me from my thoughts and I lifted my gaze in time to see an opened can fall from to the floor nearby. Fall to the floor? From where? The log nearby? Did someone throw it? I immediately gripped my knife. Now, I made do with what I had. I didn't have guns, a bow and arrow or even a machete like they did in movies. It was nothing like the movies. In fact, I had a normal, serrated, steak knife. Any other more dangerous weapon or knife would've been raided and taken by others when all of this first broke out.
