Back at NCIS, I tossed the sketch on my desk and sat down. I looked over every detail for the 100th time. I had written down the description of the suspect in words. At this time, it was nearly 4am, I hadn't gotten any sleep. Most of the team had went back home. Me, Gibbs, and Tony stayed.
I shook my head and took out another sheet of paper and a pen. I decided I would draw another sketch with the description I was given.
About an hour later I had made multiple sketches. They all looked like Adam, just in different fonts. I threw my pen and stood up, collecting all my papers. I slammed my chair back and stormed off to Abby's lab to wait for her to get in.
I stepped into the elevator and the doors began to shut. But just then, Gibbs stuck his arm between the doors and stepped in. I sighed, I knew he noticed something was up.
We both stood in silence, it was awkward. I shifted my weight on my feet and readjusted my stack of papers that I was holding behind my back.
Suddenly, Gibbs reached over and hit the button to turn the elevator off.
"Damn it," I said under my breath.
"Something you want to talk about?" He looked at me and raised his eyebrows.
"Not right now Gibbs." I grumbled.
"You've been acting strange all night." He paused and waited for a response, when he didn't get one, he continued, "can I see your sketch?"
My breath caught in my chest. Damn it why does he know literally everything? I thought to myself.
I didn't reply, I just silently handed him the stack of the multiple sketches I did.
He took them from me and flipped through all of them. He didn't say a word the entire time.
I stayed frozen and stared at him, waiting for some type of comment.
He kept looking at them, almost as if they were gonna just change right before his eyes.
He handed them back and looked at me. I knew he wanted to hear my opinion.
"It couldn't be Adam, right?" I look to him for reassurance.
"Jill, do you believe it was Adam?" He asked me.
"No Gibbs, I mean how could it be? He's a lawyer, not a killer. He could never do anything like that." I tried to convince Gibbs, and myself, that this had to just be a coincidence.
Gibbs just nodded and turned the elevator back on.
..........
I sat down on a stool in Abby's lab to wait for her. She always comes in early, I knew I wouldn't have to wait long.
McGee had put out the bolo before he went home for the night, so that was taken care of. I knew the vehicle didn't belong to Adam, so that was one point of reassurance.
I flipped through all the sketches and thought about Adam.
"Hey Jill!" Abby interrupted my thoughts.
I turedn around on my stool to face Abby, "Hey Abs,"
"Anything new on the case?" She asked as she put her bag and jacket down.
I sighed and held out my sketches. "Can you run those? And yeah, I know, they look like Adam, but it can't be him, he was at work." Not letting her even have a chance to mention it.
Abby paused and looked at me before saying, "Of course! I can run them for you right now."
She took them from me and started up all her computers. I knew she was thinking the same thing as the rest of us.
I knew it would be awhile before she got any results so I got up and decided to go see Jimmy and Ducky in autopsy. Maybe the whole Adam rumor hadn't gotten to them yet. It would be refreshing to talk to someone about the case without them jumping to conclusions.
