It had to be a baby boom this weekend. Our hospital had a total of forty-two babies born this weekend. I delivered six on my own. Last night was the first night in two weeks I was able to sleep in my bed, with my wife. I rollover to embrace the love of my life and she's not here. I got up, went to the bathroom to handle my hygiene. Once I finished, I went to search for my wife.
She is sitting on the window seat in the bay window in our kitchen. I join her and pull her over to sit in my lap. I hold her close and thank God for giving us another day to love each other, our family, and friends. She looks like she has a lot weighing on her mind.
"Talk to me love. What's on your mind?"
"Everything and nothing all at the same time. I guess I am getting too old Jeffrey and I can't work these long shifts like I used to."
I pull her face closer to mine and give the most passionate kiss we have had in a while. This woman is my world.
"Woman, you just turned fifty-six, you're still a youngin'. I'm the one who is about to turn sixty at the end of the year."
"And you are still handsome, my silver fox."
She got jokes this morning. I have a remedy for that. I slip my hand under her gown and stroke her inner thigh while I start to trail kisses along her neck. She lets out this little moan and it gets my junior rock hard. I start to spin her in my lap so that she can straddle me, so I can slip right in, but I hear the front door alarm go off.
"Why did we give them keys? Damn cockblockers."
"Jeff, stop it. I haven't seen my boys in a week outside of the office. I promise to make it up to you tonight."
"You better or I'm changing the locks."
We make ourselves presentable as we hear their voices coming around the corner.
"Good morning, parents." That's our oldest Dennis.
"Morning, old people." Our youngest, Jason. He's about to get knocked out.
"Good morning mom and dad." Our middle, Kennis. The well-mannered one.
"Good morning babies. How was your night?"
"What's up?"
All three of my boys are in the medical field. Dennis and Jason are OB/GYNs like me, and Kennis is a TCRN in the trauma unit at the hospital. He followed his mom's path. He starts to speak.
"Things were slow last night so I helped out in the ER. I had a guy come in with a fractured jaw. Said his grandpa punched him in the face."
We all laugh because we have all heard weird stories before. Dennis is next.
"I was off and tried to spend some time with DJ. His mama was tripping again. I gave her $500 two weeks ago to get tires put on her car. She asked for $200 last night to get the back tires. I asked what happened to the money that was for the tires, she said she was short on bills. She had on a fresh lace front though.
I told her I didn't have any money and she wouldn't let me have my son for the night. I just promised him that I will see him next weekend when I am off."
He always has to deal with her crap. We have been planning to get an attorney to fight for custody, but we have been too busy. I guess we will have to make it a priority.
