———

Jisung wouldn't say he had the worst time at school. He had good grades, all the teachers liked him and no one disliked him. Except for one person...

Lee Minho.

———

Jisung never knew why Minho hated him so much nor when this hatred started.

Chan was one of Jisung's childhood best friends, but he never gets to hang out with him since he's friends with Minho. Whenever he steps anywhere near Minho's group, he earns himself a death glare which feels like a shot to the head.

It came to a point where Jisung just avoided anything Minho related. If he was in a room, a no-go. If Minho was brought up, he changed the topic.

———

"Do you want my mum to drop you home?" Changbin asked worriedly. The streets around his house are scary at night, especially this late.

"No it's ok, I'll be fine." Jisung denied the offer in the nicest way possible. Changbin raised his eyebrows showing that he wasn't convinced at all. Jisung smiled, "I promise I'll be fine."

They bided their goodbyes as Jisung walked out the door. He feels his phone vibrate.

Jisung slipped his phone into his back pocket and continued to walk back to his house. He's walked home from Changbins place plenty of times — he could walk from his to home with his eyes closed if you asked.

He wasn't too bothered by how silent it was; it was calming to him.

His peace was interrupted when he heard footsteps behind him. That's unusual. Jisung picked up the pace of his walking a little just in case. These people are just waking home like he is... right?

He was wrong. So very wrong.

"Hey you. What's a pretty boy like you doing out this late alone?" It was one of the voices from behind him. The voice was deep and scary. Jisung did not want to talk to the man.

Jisung didn't stop walking, in fact, he started walking faster. He turned his head to look at the guy. There were three of them. They were tall — definitely taller than him. He also recognized them from school.

They guys continued to catcall Jisung. They were really close behind him now.

Jisung once again picked up the pace to the point he was almost running. He felt tears prick his eyes and he was scared. So scared. His mind began to panic about the possible things that would happen if he stopped.

Just then, he felt a hand grab the back of his shirt tightly. The grip was firm, and he could feel the hot breaths that left the man's mouth on his neck.

The tears that were once in his eyes were now streaming down his cheeks and the fear inside of him intensified.

"Where do you think you're going, pretty boy?" the deep voice sneered. The two other guys closed in, surrounding Jisung.

His mind raced and he started to hyperventilate. He wanted to scream. To scream for someone to help but his voice was trapped in his throat. He could grab his phone out of his pocket but that might not be the best option.

His brain just shut off, he didn't even know what was happening before he saw a guy run to the group, yelling. Was he being yelled at? or the other men? Before he knew it, the mystery person grabbed the hand that was on Jisung's shirt and stood between Jisung and the men, with Jisung behind him.

He didn't pay attention to what the mystery person was saying, but what he did know was that he recognised that voice.

Minho?

———

It wasn't long before Jisung came back to reality and realized the mystery person - Minho - was talking to him.

"-sung? Jisung? Are you ok?"

He was confused. Why was Minho helping? This is a side of Minho that he has never seen before.

As reality settled in, Jisung stammered, "I... I don't know." His breaths were shaky, and he could still feel the lingering fear in the pit of his stomach.

When he realised his cheeks were still wet, he was quick to wipe them clean. He took this as a chance to look around, to see if those guys were still around. To his surprise, they were gone. What happened when he zoned out?

When Jisung turned around, Minho was staring at him and he physically softened. "Let's get you out of here." He places an arm around Jisung's shoulders, guiding him away from the scene.

———

The walk to Jisung's house was silent and felt like it took way too long. Minho felt good being able to make sure Jisung got home safely (even though he had no clue where he lived).

As they reached Jisung's doorstep, Minho hesitated for a moment, searching Jisung's eyes for some sort of understanding.

"Thank you, Minho," Jisung finally managed, his voice still shaky but genuine. Minho nodded, a mix of emotions playing on his face — relief, guilt, and something else that Jisung couldn't quite place.

"Just... be careful, okay?" Minho's words held a sincerity that surprised Jisung, considering their history. Jisung nodded and turned to leave when he felt Miho grab his arm.

Minho was looking down at the ground and his cheeks were red, almost as if he was embarrassed. "Jisung I-" he said in a whisper so quiet that Jisung almost didn't hear him. "I'm sorry."

Jisung tilted his head, confusion in his eyes. "Why are you sorry?"

Minho took a deep breath, trying to find the courage to confess the truth that had been haunting him for far too long. "For everything. For being an asshole, for making your life difficult. I... I don't know how to explain it, but I never meant for things to be like this."

Jisung stood there, patiently waiting for Minho to continue.

"I've been an idiot. I didn't want to admit this to myself and I wanted to push it down so I... took it out on you." Minho took a deep breath, lifting his head to look Jisung dead in the eyes. "Jisung, I like you. I have a crush on you"

Jisung was taken aback by the sudden confession. "You like me?" he repeated.

Minho nodded, looking vulnerable in a way Jisung had never seen before. "Yeah. And I understand if you hate me or if you never want to talk to me again. I just needed you to know the truth."

For a moment, Jisung stayed silent. Then, unexpectedly, he let out a small laugh. "Minho, you're an idiot," he said, a playful glint in his eyes. "But thanks for saving me back there."

Minho blinked in surprise, not expecting that reaction. "You're not mad?"

Jisung shook his head. "I might need time to process this but maybe we can talk about this tomorrow? Without any death glares?"

The last part was said teasingly and it made Minho chuckle. A genuine smile formed on Minho's face. "Yeah, I'd like that."

As Jisung waved goodbye, he felt his phone vibrate.

Babysitter:
Everything ok?
You get home safe??

Child:
Yeah all good
Thank you for checking in :)

Babysitter:
Anytime!

(To say everyone was surprised when Minho and Jisung walked into the school grounds hand in hand and smiling at each other was an understatement)
